Is it time to privatise RTE

Would it work if they privatised 2FM and Co? I worked there many years ago when it actually made money but the glory days are over and it seems the money is not there anymore. The deadweight needs to be cut loose but this will only happen if it's privatised. The salaries need to be cut but again it's not going to happen unless private shareholders money is at stake.

I wouldn't care if 2FM disappeared off the face of the earth but RTÉ Radio 1 should never be sold as it's public service remit would be compromised in private ownership.

The grossly overpaid salaries of some of the presenters need to be addressed though.

RTÉ cannot continue to play the poor mouth while paying some of it broadcasters more than the President of the USA for little more than answering phones or reading the odd newspaper in the name of 'research'.

There are many able people out there who could fulfill similar roles for a fraction of the 'fee'.

Let the 'stars' try ply their trade in the private sector where the market will determine their true worth.

Wouldn't it be great to see RTE privatized and someone come to Joe Duffy some day and say "Joe we are just going to sit in on your show today to see what you do to justify such massive wages, you ok with that?".

RTE should never be privatized for any reason. all it would achieve is the complete duming down of services to nothing and the removal of any potential to deliver services that could offer something better then the commercial stations. as for the salaries not being cut unless private shareholders money is at stake, who cares? why should we allow private shareholders to get their hands on the peoples public services just to cut salaries. frankly there are plenty of commercial stations for shareholders to invest in without privatizing RTE.. i'd rather have RTE and all its faults then have the "more of the same" the private sector offer

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.
