The smaller stations are often just turn on and you get your Barometer reading as it is in your area. Others , by following the initial setting up, you input your height above sea level ( can find this easily on an Ordinance Survey map) and the station will calibrate itself. You will then have the Pressure reading for your area. You can watch out for a day that the pressure reading (Met Eireann Reports )is steady in your part of the country to see if your station corresponds. Some home stations will be out by a small bit , some stations let you calibrate up or down.
    Hope you enjoy the station.

This is perfect weather for checking your barometer as there is pretty uniform pressure over the country.
The closest to Clonmel is probably Gurteen.

    http://www.met.ie/latest/reports.asp
gurteen is in north tipp, between borisokane and birr.
it dosen't really matter during weather like it is now as presure is fairly uniform accross the country.
just looking there now at 2100 hrs 1016-1018

Best to do a comparison between Gurteen in North Tipp, Moorepark in Fermoy and Oakpark in Carlow.
You're probably almost in the middle of that triangle.
