Friend of mine is selling one. Nct'd till july next year. Full leather interior.

New Head gasket/chain/bushings/full service/4 brand new tyres/new battery and more all done within the last couple of months. The cd player in it is worth 400 euro alone.

    111k miles on the clock.

Drives really well and the engine sounds great.

1600 euro... would I be mad to buy it or is there better out there? Driving a 02 mondeo at the moment that has failed the nct 3 times now and needs about 600 euro worth of work to pass. Really thinking of taking the BMW.

You could get an 02 318i with a newer, 2 litre engine for that money I'd say.

The only reason I'm so interested in this one is because I know the guy has put a lot of money and attention into this car, and has a genuine reason for selling it.

Also, I'm only 24 so can imagine my insurance taking a hit if I went with a 2L

My father had a 1999 318i for 5 years and thought it was a lovely car to drive. The only concern he had was the small boot and the rear leg room wasn't overly generous.

Apart from that he had no issues and was seriously thinking of another one but traded up to a 5 series.

It was offered to me but I refused as I didn't need a car at the time and couldn't afford to properly maintain a BMW either. I was kicking myself a few years later that I didn't take him up on the offer.

If you're looking for breakneck speed, unbelievable acceleration or require masses of inside space, it's not the car for you.

But if you want a decent comfortable car that can cruise happily on motorways but still be nippy around a city without breaking the bank, it's perfect.

That seems way too low to be honest.
Anybody else have something to say about the price?

Some people are very hard to please. I have a '00 with 180k miles, still drives perfect and will expect it to for another 100k. 111k is nothing, I'd be sceptical if I saw it on donedeal. Not so sure about 1600, reckon mine is only worth a grand.

Yes, but not for 1600. 1200 tops I reckon.

It won't be very fast though and the manual is a much better car to drive imo.

The 2000 318i is 1.9 litre so I cannot see a huge difference in insurance between a 1.9 litre and 2.0 litre.

Your buddy must really like that car to have put that amount of money/parts into her - she was basically written off until he spent all of that dosh, madness on his part imo!
