If someone were to become a business teacher what degree would they have to hold? Can you become a teacher from business studies degree, commerce degree, arts degree etc ? also what additional subject would would they be able to teach! Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,

There are usually two routes that you can take to become a teacher.

First option do a course that combines desired teaching subject with education.
This is generally the quickest and cheaper option as you would be classified as an undergraduate in terms of fees.

Second option, do degree on its own and then do masters in education which is now two years.

It's very important to check that the degree you chose is recognised by teaching council as you will not be able to teach if it isn't.

Go to the Teaching Council website firstly, and check if your course allows you to teach. You can download a document that lists every recognised degree in the country and exactly what subjects it allows you to teach.

After that, register for the PDE with a university of your choice - depending on where you live or for the Hibernia one if you prefer distance learning. You will need two years and approx 10-12K. You will need to teach two subjects for this, so if you can do business you should be able to do economics, accounting etc as well. Check to see what your degree allows you to do.

you can submit you degree for assessment by the teaching council, they'll tell you what subjects you have enough credits to teach. you need 60 credits in any subject to teach it.
