Be best to vaccinate whole herd.

Tested a few back in spring and 1 came back positive for ibr. Had no problem up to then. But was having a few problems with them last spring so asked vet to do a few samples. Gave them shot up the nose at that stage and had no more problems. Vet said she would blood a few of the cows at herd test to see. But that not for another month. First year doing any of this so not sure about it. Any advice welcome.

Have u noticed cows with snotty noses or coughing .ibr symptoms are usually brought on my some kind of stress .i had probs with it and went with 2 shots of live vaccine 6 months apart and then a yearly booster with dead vaccine.no probs since.

If you are going to vaccinate I would do whole herd now and then 3 -4 wks before calving re do them. Cows will have antibodies in milk then for calves so no need to give them shot up nose.
Then do your twice a yr dose in june and early jan

Ya have noticed a few snotty ones in last week of so. Have just separated bulls from heifers and mixed up two herds so this was a bit of stress.

Doctors differ and patients die. Always live here up to this spring. Dead vac in March for the year. Cow with pneumonia last week, will die this week. Vaccinated all with live last Thurs.

Vet said to me before that thr live vaccine brings othet things with it that deas doesnt.
He said the companys cannot say this as its not easy to actually say it does extra than what's its supposed to.
There is evidence to suggest that the live vaccine combats the effects of johnes. But again companys cannot say this is true

im going with the bovipast this year, if your giving it to weanings 4-6 weeks prior to weaning , so it has a chance to kick in.

How much is bovipast per dose. Is is only a live vaccine. We use rispoval intra nasal, used the live and dead vaccine in 2013.
Vet recommended we only use the dead one this year. So far we have had now issue with pneumonia. We would be vaccinating bought in calves.

Bovipast beteween 6 and 6.50 per shot but well worth it.i vaccinate all my calves at about 5 days old and a booster 3 weeks later.very little issues with sick calves or scours since I stated vaccinating .its expensive but not as expensive as vets treating sick caves ,lack of thrive and bottles of nuffor
