    hi,
i'm wondering if anyone here has any experience of a quality kit house?
i'm looking into building a house & came across a few german companies, one stood out, Baufritz, very high quality but unfortunately far costlier than a conventional built house.
anyone know of one built here in Ireland?

I havent seen any in ireland but i have been fortunate enough to be present in germany to oversee and witness the on-site construction of one.

Yes they are expensive but the major advantage in my eyes is the time and labour savings. With the foundations and ground floor slab complete i witnessed a kit arrive on site at 7am and basically a weather tight 2 storey house all put together by 7pm.

The quality seemed very high and i was very impressed with the air tightness measures being taken right throughout the build.

    12 hr turnaround
i'd want to be in a fair rush to justify the cost though.
i'd love to witness the construction first hand.

Yeah it was a relatively simple but nice design of a detached mid sized 3 bedroom house with a basement. The simpler the design the quicker it all goes together on-site, they bring a small mobile crane to site for the day and an experienced crew , it basically slots together its amazing.

I am looking for similar information, i like the idea of a prefab kit house, but alot of the german companies seem very expensive.
Also, do you usually go to your architect and get plans drawn up and then take those to the kit house manufacturer to get that made or are they usually involved at design stage?

HufHaus were exhibiting at a show I was at a few months ago: GBP£2,200 per square metre is what they were quoting, plus £60k for translation and all specifications in local language, including certs.

Nice work if you can get it.

I get asked regularly if we can do one: we could, but no-one (here) could afford to pay for it. Some things just aren't economically viable - the only place here that used to do it, went bust a good few years ago now.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
