Hi all does anyone know where I could pick up an old butchers paper dispenser/cutter?they were used in most butcher shops before plastic came about. Normally made out of iron on a wooden stand.
    Thanks in advance

For those who don't remember them, this is what they looked like. The 'blade' (it wasn't at all sharp) hung down from above retaining the paper and the paper was cut by simply drawing it from one side to the other. Most butcher shops had two of them, one for greaseproof paper in which the meat was wrapped and a roll of brown paper for an outer wrapper which was usually tied up with twine.

This model is mounted to hang below the shop counter, other models were free-standing with a wooden frame.

Afraid not, I just know what they looked like because we were in the business a long time ago. Thought I'd post a picture of an example in case other people didn't know what you were looking for. Most of them would have been under the counter and out of sight so there's probably few enough people these days who remember them.

I have a free-standing butcher paper dispenser that's selling at my estate auction. It's cool. I picked it up at an estate sale and used it to wrap presents with, but don't need it now. Check it out at ebth dot com items 1607460 butcher-paper-dispenser-and-cutter

This is an Irish discussion forum, your website indicates that the item is for sale in Louisville, Kentucky.

It may be 'cool' but I bet it weighs a ton. Nice try but as it has the look of a pretty ordinary model, shipping it from the US to Ireland would not be an economic proposition.

I assume its an old one you want as they are still made http://www.amazon.co.uk/Paper-Dispenser-Freestanding-Separately-Packaging2Buy/dp/B005NYZ526/ ?

A few different designs http://www.giftwrapuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=60_95 but again all new.

It wasn't just butchers that had those dispensers most department stores had them and I bet a few still use them for gift wrapping.
