so this is my 1st post. hello everyone on boards.
i was in a shop earlier on when i see the security guard giving out to a young child' i over heard the security saying to the child that he cant be inside the shop putting sweets down his trousers'. then this lady interviened and said to the secuirty 'why are you picking on him'. he said look it none of your business. then she says that she will pay for it. she paid for it . so we where walking out at the same time and the guard was outside. she said to him that they are only kids. he replied by saying 'look i probably nabed it in the bud by not letting him walk out the door with the stuff but now that you have come along and buy him the sweets ,your bqsically saying its okay.
me personally i agree with the security guard . on the fact that he did indeed nab it in the bud until she got involved and bought the sweets. it was like saying it fine to shoplift.
whats are yoir views on this? who was right or who was wrong

Shoulda 'nabbed' the youngun around the skull for stealing!

Jk, to be honest it depends what age the kid was, rough estimate?

I think the woman should have lectured the kid sternly and ran him off, before secretly paying to keep him out of legal trouble.

given that he was shoplifting sweets & not food or something like that I'd agree w. the security guard. paying for it & telling him its ok sends the wrong message - that he deserves the candy even though he was stealing it.

now if it was food or medicine, something basic like that I'd be completly on the side of the woman because I'd assume most people wouldn't be stealing that sort of thing w/o good reason. so for me the best way to handle kids shoplifting really depends on the situation more than anything

Wether some do gooder paid for the sweets or not doesn't matter. The offence was committed and only by the good grace of the security guard the Gardai weren't involved.

I agree with the security guard. The best thing to do would be to scare the kid and let him go with a harsh warning. The woman was just trying to be nice so I don't blame her. She probably just didn't think about the consequences of her actions. Did she understand when the security guard tried to explain it to her?

i never even thought of that .
i was nearly going to say to the girl myself that its not okay for you to buy for him. sending out mixed signals to the child. hate to be secuirty too.
