Today I managed to get a Too Fast warning from one of those electronic signs to warn motorists they are speeding. No cars on the road at the time and just inside a 50 kph zone. I reckon I was doing about 53. Not hugely impressive I know but I was dead chuffed, especially as I was 140kms into the ride!

There is one I have triggered on a few occasions, but you have to get in the right spot to set it off

Can't help but give it the absolute beans passing through one of those...and then regret it for the next 50k...or until you see another one.

i mentioned it on another thread here a while back, but about 10 years ago i went down knockmaroon hill, and realised there was a garda at the bottom with a speed gun; it was a 30mph zone, and my cycle computer told me i was doing 38mph.
the garda pumped the air with his fist in encouragement as i passed by.

yeah i've one of those on one of my regular routes, can't help but give it a lash. it's at the end of a flat stretch which has a downhill leading into it, so it's a good effort to see how much speed you can hold off the hill. can usually get it to register 53/54, have gotten it a bit higher on ocasion

Hang on! Was that not the standard Garda hand in the air stop signal?...

Nope, that's for all traffic. The ROTR are very clear on that.

Question, was watching the cycling last week and the motor cycle showed his speedo at 70KmHr. It looked like they were on the flat in the last 2 or 3 Km. Thats some speed, but what gearing ration do the pros use to be able to spin for that speed.
I'm guessing it depends on the stage, climbs etc but any idea of the gearing ratios required or usually used ?
