Blue tits and caterpillars

Just heard a woman on Lesser Spotted Ulster claim that a Blue Tit needs to feed one chick 100 caterpillars per day. And that they have an average of 12 chicks. So she said a Blue Tit would need 1200 caterpillars per day to feed its brood.

Surely she misspoke? Or is bull****ting? Didn't see what credentials she might have.

She is perfectly correct. 100 caterpillars per day per chick is the average.

I must be thinking of larger caterpillars when my head says "where could a chick possibly put all that?"
