I have a few debts to pay off and of course I'll be spending my money on everyone else. The monetary aspect wasn't that important, having something to do and not having a big gap on my cv was crucial. I was starting to lose my mind

Well I had a few interviews this week which boosted my total

Funnily enough this one was a company I had met with prior (lost out marginally) but they had another opening

I have three more interviews scheduled but I think I might cancel because I always said the first one that made an offer I'd take it and I really like this position

All in all 24 interviews... 27 if I do end up going to the 3 next week

Sincerely, I'm delighted for you and wish you all the best. I hope it is contagious!

If you don't start for another couple of weeks, sure there is no harm going to the three interviews. Ya never know what might come up? Just a thought. But fair play all the same!

Fair point. One of them is with Grant Thornton, one of the biggest accounting firms around. I will go to that one just to see how it goes. Having an offer means I'll be oozing confidence going into the interview which is always a good thing. They won't be able to smell the desperation off me :)

What's the job? A general description, realise you won't want to mention the company or anything. Just the industry and general job type duties.

The weekend job is in a sports activity centre. The main job is in the mobile network industry. Starting off at a low position but hoping to work my way up to sales planner/finance advisor in the next few years. I think it's a good move because IT is only going to expand and I have experience in the field so ill definitely succeed. Career progression may not be guaranteed so im taking a gamble that if I do the work well ill be noticed.

I had an interview with an insurance company today which went well so I could be looking at another offer potentially. This position would have a more secure career progression line but it's all speculation at this stage

Also jaguar UK (the car company) have sent me an aptitude test to do but thats the last thing on my mind right now

I know you were looking at bank positions, if you need advice on the interviews let me know, I've been interviewed by every bank in the country lol

I've backed away from that for now, banks aren't interested in a science-degree holder. Have accidentally ended up in marketing/advertising. No idea where to go from here, it was just a part time job I took whilst in college. I seem to be good at it though. No relevant qualifications though or money to do some.

Not to sound bitter but you are best off, the banks make you jump through hoops for the job even for the branch roles. I got turned down because of my leaving cert points for one of them and I was only 10 off the requirement. Read the AIB thread and you'll see what I mean

Have you had any interviews recently?

Nah, decided to stop looking for a while and see where this job takes me!

The funny thing about having a job is that you get interviews and offers more frequently. My phone will be going off constantly next month I imagine

If you have spare time during the weekends to learn a new skill I would advise Camara in Chapelizod industrial estate. It's a voluntary organisation where you get sent computers from other companies, you strip them, fix them and build them up again then send them to Africa. The skill you learn is team work, stock handling IT skills and Admin dealing with off shore deliveries. It's also for a good cause. I worked there when I was 18 and anytime a HR Manager sees it and I tell them about it they're impressed. Look into it maybe, hell I might even go back just for something to do on Sundays, it's a fun experience

I followed the other thread and was in much the same boat as yourself - albeit I had nowhere near the amount of interviews as you had. After reading that thread I was nearly contemplating going over to England, the prospects looked dire.

After several rejections (many before the interview stage), I received 2 internship offers at the start of the week! One of which I was really hoping to get, and I am now delighted I worked so hard for it. Needless to say I accepted the one I really wanted. It's been a great week!

Now I just have to get accomodation sorted as soon as possible!

Didn't take notice of the amount of interviews until #10, they just came flowing in after that. I love writing and reading so Im articulate enough to whip up a good cover letter and CV in my own wording and it always comes off as if I just sent it to this company and didn't spam it everywhere.

Looking back in the interviews I said one or two things that now I realise could have been interpreted the wrong way

-when they ask where you want to be in 5 years don't say their job, even if you mean it as a joke because it could be taken the wrong way which it was with myself

-at the end when they ask do you have any questions don't say "what's a typical day in the life of this job?" I see this being recommended on websites as the best question and ive used it many times. But now I realise it comes across as if you didn't read the job spec

-on the topic of questions a really good one I asked (and i asked it in the job I did get) "what is your favorite thing about this company and what sparks your passion here"

also "what is your ideal candidate", I never got to use this one but i imagine if you ask that and give quick follow up examples of how you fit that, before the end of the interview, you could be on the top of their mind when selecting the right person

Ended up getting another offer. It came down to accepting the initial job that I had experience in and would enjoy doing or the new offer that is relevant to my degree. I picked the latter now because it has more opportunities and further education programmes open to me

Hopefully I made the right choice. Feeling very lucky at the moment, really makes up for the hardship during the summer where I felt useless
