boring life, wanting change

    Right I'm after some advice...

I'm in a boring job for years, I hate it, I don’t even have the ambition to look for other work as I'm not that interested. Maybe I'm bored with life in general and wondering if there is anything else out there. I did travel the world years ago and enjoyed it but would love another adventure.
I am a single 31 year old female. I am wondering has anyone any advice for someone who feels like quitting their job in Ireland and heading off somewhere the other side of the world. I would be happy to work in bars or waitress (this is work I do not have experience in) Maybe if I did this for a year or so I may appreciate what I have at home.

Where to go? Where can I get work? Where is good fun? Has anyone did this type of thing in their 30’s?

Have you considered shooting a redneck and then heading off on a road trip with a friend before driving off a cliff together holding hands?

Irish style, that's a trip to Mayo and then the cliffs of Moher, in a honda civic

I don't have a link but I'm sure I read somewhere that lots of people between 30 and 40 change careers, so it's not a hugely extraordinary thing to pack in the job and look for something more fulfilling.

    You're not alone OP :)

First of all - if you continue doing what you're doing it's only going to get worse.

You have to do what makes you happy or life isn't worth living. Now I know that phrase is a cliche but never were truer words spoken. No point in being somewhere you don't want to be - life is far too short and the years go by quicker the older you get.

Perhaps some male company would spark that excitement off again? I have plenty of female/male friends that used to speak with me about feeling down. A couple of months later they found a partner, moved in and that was that really. Totally different people today. Perhaps they feel a sense of "purpose" for lack of a word...

    Start with your username!

A friend of mine became a flight attendant recently, doing mostly domestic US routes but loves it.

OP, sounds like you have no real ties. That's a huge advantage, many people do not have.

Get out, and Press the reset button on life.

You can do that in your 30's, 40's, 50's, whatever age, it does not matter if the time is right, the time is right, but do it now. - Don't wait, put the wheels in motion.

It's not the things you do in life you'll regret the most, but the things you didn't do.

I'm guessing you've saved up a nice chunk of change if you're considering going off on a world tour. The only problem with the world tour is you'll come back in a year broke, unless you find something along the way, which is unlikely. You won't really make a life out of touring the world these days. too many people trying to do the same thing.

Maybe look at reeducating, finding something you do like and seeing if there's some way of making money at it. Even taking advantage of tourists that come to ireland would allow for meeting new people, spend the summer working in Ireland then spend the off season touring yourself "researching" the tourist industry.

Don't spend your own money on a round the world trip.
Volunteer. That way you get other people to pay for your holiday and you get to feel smug.
    win win.

The drug mule business is booming right now.

You can see the world, meet wonderful new people and if you're a fan of ingesting prophylactics stuffed full of narcotics then you're in for a real treat because you'll get that in spades!

Just ask for a brochure at your nearest crack den.

Drug Mulery - You won't be disappointed!

I'd second this motion. At least with a major heroin addiction you 'll be swapping all your problems for one problem......

    Here's the good news.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-health/7897060/Women-are-at-their-most-beautiful-at-31.html

I think you need to ask yourself what you want from life.

To be more specific. Is it your ambition to have a family (and I would be asking this if you were a man or a woman). Because if that is your primary ambition, then I would concentrate on finding someone that you would be happy to live with and have a family with. If you want do that in Ireland, then it is better with an Irish partner. I know loads of people who have their first kid at 40 and they are just too old for it. (I know that sounds desperately clinical, but I am just trying to get to the point).

If that doesnt matter to you now, and you are happy that it won't matter to you in ten years time, then you have loads of options in your life. Pick the place in the world you would most like to live, and go and live there. For example.

Learn to scuba dive, spend some time travelling and learning and diving.

If you like a place - stay a while and work at a dive school or shop. You'll meet tons of people, learn a new skill and you can see some of the most beautiful places on earth.

That's what I would do if I had the opportunity. Some day.....

All excellent ideas above. I'm afraid I don't have any...I'm just here to ask where your job is so I can send in my CV, you know, if you do decide to leave and all

Do Volunteer work abroad while traveling. Could get a working visa to OZ or Canada. Have you every thought about setting up your own business?

Can't get a working holiday visa in Oz once you're 31.

In fact unless you have a skill they want, or a very successful business, you're not getting into Oz, now that you're 31.

Learn some Spanish and head to South America for a few months. Plenty of people in their late 20's and early 30's travel around there. Lots of casual work in vineyards, bars, hotels etc as well. Sounds like you just need a break.

You travelled before but what about living somewhere different. Why not apply for a job abroad?

    Hi OP

I'm in a similar situation. I live overseas already and, for various different reasons, have decided that I no longer want to stay in my job. I'm 28, single and don't really have any desire to work a serious job at all. I have a bit of savings gathered so I can afford to do nothing for a while. I've decided I'm going to quit my job at xmas to maximise the amount of money I can claim in my tax return next year (that's something to think about). I'm probably going to take my van for a few road trips and lie in every day and go drinking midweek. I'll go home to Ireland for a holiday at some stage too.

Even coming to the decision that I want to quit felt very liberating. Life is for living, not being stuck in a job you no longer care about. I'm looking forward to my new lease of freedom. Best of luck OP
