Upgrading to an Honours Degree

    Hi all:

Does anyone know of any Institutes/Unis that can upgrade a level 7 qualification to a level 8 qualification?

I have a UK Higher National Diploma and a UK Bachelor of Education (BEd.) which gives me qualified teacher status in Europe inc UK and Ireland. And have over 20 years teaching experience. So in all 4 years FT study including 2 teaching placements on the BEd, 4 months (March-June) and 6 months (Jan-June).

However the BEd, (although giving recognised QT status) is an Ordinary Degree, and I need to find some way of upgrading PT to an Honours Degree.

PS: The BEd, was only ever classified as "Ordinary" there was never an Honours option with it.

    Thanks for any advice.

Im just wondering why you want to upgrade it.If you want to upgrade it due to higher allowance id check if you upgraded it would you get the higher allowance due to cutbacks on the allowances.

If you need it for a course that requires level 8 id contact the college directly and see what they say.

The postgrad teaching qualification in ireland is now a masters so Id contact the colleges that run it, explain your situation and see if you can do the course and see if you might be able to get exemptions.

    Thanks Small Garden.

When it comes to interviews, its a major handicap as it gains way less points than an "Honours Degree".

I was wondering if any others currently teaching have had a similar problem and if so, how they went about addressing it.

To be honest, I'm thinking that as it was 4 years study, that there may be an outside chance of getting it recognised as equivalent to an "Honours" Degree within the Irish Framework of Qualifications. But I think that to be unlikely.
