Anyone tried the 'New' Garmin cadence sensor?

Just about to buy the Garmin GSC10 (€45.29 new) which seems to be popular on here and standard issue.

But I've spotted a "new" Garmin cadence sensor and now I have a choice to make.
Does anyone who's bought the new one, or has the old one, have any recommendations for one over the other?
I don't know too much about either.
    Thanks.

Also - is the 'new' one really being sold on SCR for ½ the price it is on Wiggle? Or is the SCR one just a mount?

Here is the New sensor on Wiggle (€69.25) and here it is again on SCR for €38.99

Scr is just a cadence sensor where wiggle is speed and cadence . Good reviews of the new unit on dcrainman.

Great thanks, I only need cadence because my edge 800 gives me my speed.

do you use a turbo? cadence only will not give you speed/distance(even if they are of limited use) on the turbo. speed/cadence will

Speed and distance on the turbo are kind of irrelevant. I could do 50kph for 100km in 2 hours if I turned the resistance down low enough! ;)

The GSC10s for me have several times either stopped working completely or only remain with cadence due to rain. The newer one looks like a much better design.

that's why i said limited use:). what they do help with is stopping the garmin going into auto pause mode if you don't turn off the gps. useful if doing set interval session with power, nice to have a working garmin.

No, it's for my bike, the cadence sensor is to help improve my hill climbing technique.
I've been reading how instead of powering up hills (which I'm guilty of) it's better to aim for a high cadence to avoid burnout mid climb.
I have no clue what 80-90rpm feels like, so need something to tell me.

Aye I keep forgetting to start mine on the Turbo as you don't get the reminder! I don't use auto pause myself, so no issue there.

I am defo interested in one of the new speed sensors when they are available unbundled from the cadence, stick it on the rear wheel and jobs a goodun!

Got the cadence and speed sensor bundled with an Edge 1000, they both work fine, can't say they work any better than the GSC10 though. The cadence sensor is held on by a rubber band around the crank, I was using a magnet on the pedal axle with the GSC10 so the new one isn't as neat. The speed sensor works fine, bit of a pain if you change wheels often though, with the GSC10 you just need to have a spoke magnet on all your rear wheels, with the new sensor it has to be moved from wheel to wheel every time you change them. First world problem I know, but something to bear in mind...

Have the cadence sensor. Worsk great. Didnt like the GSC 10 as it would affect the speed readings while using GPS. You can turn it off but then thats a waste of a unit.

    Cadence only suits me.

I will be selling me shortly though as I got my eye on something else that measures cadence.

When I first set it up it reads were way off (going less than 10km/h going down hill) and never really worked so gave up.

You need to get the distance between the sensor and the magnet right, which admittedly can be tricky, especially since wheels and frames flex.

I've posted here before that I also believe the power usage on the unit is less when using a GSC10, though I have nothing but my personal experience to back that up.

That's great everyone thanks, will go for the new cadence only one from SCR.

GSC10 was an awful unit, I must have gone through 3 or 4 of them, let it water at the arm. Got 1 back though when I returned within warranty.

surprised at the issues with the gsc10, been lucky enough to have 3 which worked flawlessly

Once the battery went that was it. Replacing the seal was a pain

Wasn't even the battery with me, put a new one on the bike I had on the turbo, didn't even go outside except if i was going to the clubs turbo sessions, but the condensation must have got in and fried it.
I returned 3 sensors to Garmin, all within warranty, they replaced one the dirty feckers.. :D
The price on the new unit seems excessive.

Considering I have bought too many of the units now, if this one works for 3 years then definitely its work ever cent ;)
I generally buy off this guys.

Have the GSC10 on bike and connected to S5 with Endomondo and very happy with it.
    Good to have the cadence.
Dont know if speed is coming from GSC10 or phone but its 100% same as Strava records for the same ride.

Have the ridesense cadence sensor on main bike and that too works mighty.

All I need to know now is how to increase my cadence in a manageable way. Tend to let cadence slip a bit.

Will try a few spins with someone that does higher cadence to see how they manage it...
