Cheap downtown hotel in Zurich

Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel near the main train station in Zurich? We will be flying in one evening and getting a train out the next morning, so the main criteria are central and clean. Facilities don't really come into it.

I've had a quick look and there are a couple in the ~€100 range which is an OK price, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I know it's Switzerland and cheap isn't really in their lexicon, so I'll settle for relatively cheap.

I'm open to staying in a hotel out at the airport, but would prefer central since the train in the morning doesn't go via the airport, so it would be an extra leg to take to get to the centre of Zurich.

Liked this place as a one-nighter 'rest your head' type hotel

    - 5 mins from the airport by free shuttle

    - 2 mins walk to local train station

    - 15mins to Zürich HB

Thanks for that pointer Yamanoto. That got me looking at the various train, tram & metro routes around the area. After a couple of days with google maps I ended up booking the Novotel Zurich Messe which is a couple of stops down from the airport. There's a tram from the airport which stops outside, and then in the morning the same tram continues on to the centre.

And best of all . . . €68 for a family room. I think I found a bargain in Switzerland. The kids may not appreciate being stuck on a sofa bed in the same room as us, but I think they will appreciate the ~€100 or more that we're saving by staying there which can be spent on more fun things.

    Good stuff zagmund.

I actually priced the hotel I suggested after posting & it came in a little 'spendier' than I recalled.

Novotels are great spots though & you certainly bagged a bargain - which will mitigate everything else being eye-wateringly expensive

    Enjoy!
