Local spud man has contacted me looking to rent some ground. Would I lose my entitlements if I rented it out?

If its for next year, as far as I know you will loose the entitlements on the rented ground. But the value of the entitlements will be spread evenly across the existing entitlements you have left.

Just a bit of advice as I don't know what set up you have but don't forget that spud men will leave your field in sh!t . Massive tracks.
Destoner will leave a row of stones.
If youl be tilling the land with your own machinery the following spring be prepared if it's contractor not so bad.

We rented out 20 acres years ago all that happend as well as bursting a water mains.
Got 370 acre at the time
Came back looking for more land offered 470 said noway following year he was bankrupt

First of all it's spelt potato. And if your worried about the field being left a state just get him to agree to lay the field down in grass afterwords. Think of the fertilizer after the spuds. And if it's a dry year there will be no tracks and people always exaggerate what a destoner does. As far as entitlements go I don't have a clue.

It's spelled not spelt, seeing as you are correcting the homework this morning!

Not sure on entitlements, but, it's common to arable rent on the second year also so if they make a mess they can sort it or lose their snout on rent costs

Throw it into your own area aid declaration.....
Write it into the contract that land must be vacated by end oct.

*I think* for 2015 - if you rent ground, your SFP will be calculated on the minimum of the ground declared in 2013 and 2015. So if lower in 2015, then your payment / ha will go up (relative to 2013 numbers)
So if you have high value entitlements, it might mean more cuts. If low value, might work out for you.

Very well known meath grower rented 120 acres beside us for spuds this year, got 90 of it planted but left another 30 unsown despite ploughing and powerharrowing it, its now growing the finest crop of red shank i have ever seen 3-4 ft high....disgraceful the state the field is in now

That happens, who knows what the circumstances where, could of been too wet. Same beside us lad has nama ground rented, tractors got stolen and joyrided, never got back to sowing the headbands or a 20 acre field.

In relation to 'spelt' organic weath type crop, learn somthing new everyday, thanks boards:D

Think that was the reason alright, but still no excuse for the state the field is in now, a blast of roundup wouldnt of went astray when the weeds started coming up
