    Friday pricewise

Leave it to Luca again with 11-1 Sir Walter Scott

THE re-emergence of Luca Cumani has been one of the features of this Flat season. Yesterday, two Cumani-trained fillies absolutely hacked up at Doncaster and in the Ladbrokes Mallard Handicap (2.10) this afternoon he saddles the unexposed Sir Walter Scott. At 11-1 with Hills he is the bet of the day.
Sir Walter Scott has had only two runs for his current connections and four in total, so it was a really good effort from him to finish seventh in last month’s Ebor, especially as he was stuck wide around the home turn. Furthermore, the ground might have been quick enough for him and I expect him to improve significantly on that performance today.
He will need to, as he faces some in-form stayers, including Elidor, who finished in front of him at York, and Adventure Seeker, who was a shade unlucky not to win the Melrose, which was run in an almost identical time to the Ebor.
That suggests Adventure Seeker might have the measure of the older horses and, at 13-2, I can’t let him go unbacked either. The ground will suit and he stays well, so there is a lot to like about his chances and three-year-olds get plenty of weight from the older horses.
Farquhar, the other three-year-old, has a chance if he stays the trip and Pearl Castle is the type of John Quinn horse who is always underrated. The latter is unbeaten in two starts ovet hurdles at this track and the step up in trip should suit him.
Having been with Accepted in the Gimcrack I have to side with him again in the Polypipe Flying Childers (1.40) now he drops back in trip and given he’s 14-1.
For some reason Accepted went bonkers at York, pulling like a mustang for the first half of the race and not seeing out the extra furlong.
That was too bad to be true and if he is back to his Tipperary form he is certainly no 14-1 shot. If he does pull hard again stall one on the outside is not going to help, but he has the super-quick Mukhmal drawn next to him, so at least he should have some early pace to follow.
Furthermore, the best ground is up the middle, and with the stalls on the stands’ side that is exactly where Accepted should be racing.
The biggest danger could be Moonraker, who was unlucky at York last time and is better than he has shown.
The Queen is probably spending most of her time worrying about what is going to happen to Scotland next week, but her star stayer Estimate might give her something to cheer about in the Socialites Electric Cigarettes Doncaster Cup (2.40).
Estimate left her dire effort at Goodwood miles behind when a narrow second to Pale Mimosa at the Ebor meeting and that, along with her Gold Cup second, are the stand out pieces of form.
However, she is certainly not unbeatable and, at the prices, I prefer the chances of Whiplash Willie for Andrew Balding.
There should still be enough juice in the ground for this horse and I was impressed with him in the Henry II Stakes at Sandown when he was set an awful lot to do behind Brown Panther.
Last time he should have won at Chester under a huge weight. David Probert let an unexposed and quality three-year-old slip clear round the home turn and he couldn’t peg him back. Nevertheless, Whiplash Willie finished miles clear of some really good horses and he has it in him to beat Estimate.

    Advice

    Accepted
    1.40 Doncaster
1pt win at 14-1 with Hills (10-1 bet365, Boyles, Coral and Ladbrokes)

    Sir Walter Scott
    2.10 Doncaster

    Adventure Seeker
    2.10 Doncaster
1pt win at 13-2 with Boylesports (6-1 bet365 and Betfred)

    Whiplash Willie
    2.40 Doncaster
1pt win at 8-1 with Coral (7-1 bet365 Boyles and Hills)

Paddy Power gave money back on Cotai Glory - some consolation, I suppose.

Was one of the unlucky ones on Cotai Glory, stung a bit at the time but what can you do! Was also on Miss Atomic Bomb, who got beaten by a horse who drifted from 2's to 7's!! All swings and roundabouts but two sickeners for sure
