    I got a new car the other day and was wondering what I should get in terms of initial paint protection and maintaining it. And is there any recommended detailers in Cork?

    MX valeting are mobile and are often in Cork. Have seen some decent work done by him. Worth checking out their Facebook for examples.

    There's also an annoying fella in Thurles who will no doubt appear shortly:D

    You will almost certainly need a full de-contamination and polish depending on how much damage your dealer actually inflicted on the poor car :-). I just did a full paint correction on a 142 supplied car this week. Scary how bad the paint can be on a brand new car.

    As its a new car I would be looking at some of the long lasting sealants out there that should give you 12 months + protection. Unless your like me and like applying aealant and waxes fairly often :-)

    Once you have it sorted initially and have it well protected you just mind it as normal. Decent pre wash & two bucket method wash with some wax top up will see you right for a fair few months. Most new cars I do end up back due to the tar that inevitabbly starts to take hold.

    Depends what you want in terms of protection, and whether you like to spend time on your car;
    a) something that is very durable; a year plus; then you want to be looking into nano sealants
    b) something that you can get a few months out of, and dont mind keeping it topped up every few months; regular waxes or sealants.

    From a maintenance point of view, your weekly washes, at a minimum, if you get this list of items, provided you use the correct techniques, you will be able to keep the car looking very fresh for 5 years plus, without having to consider polishing it, but it will need regular de-contamination and topping up of protection.
    2 Buckets - read about the Two Bucket Methond, washing technique
    A good wash mitt - lambswool or microfibre
    A good drying towel - microfibre
    pH neutral shampoo
    pH neutral wheel cleaner
    A soft wheel brush

    With that small list, you should be able to keep the car looking very respectable from week to week and every few months do a strip back of old wax/sealant and re-protect (obviously not as often if you are choosing to go down the nano sealant route)
