    Hi Guys

I've had a duo earmarked for my wedding next year but due to other commitments they cannot commit to anything until January. These are to guys who play everything imaginable (50's - modern, rap songs, remixes) and have a great vibe. They play the acoustic guitar and one of the guys will play other instruments to compliment their style. From what I can remember from seeing them live twice they do their own backing tracks. I've never seen two guys rock a place like they did on both nights in all my life from barely legals to an older crowd. As you've probably guessed these are by no means a wedding band. We are willing to take the risk and wait until January they are that good - even in price coming from the UK and providing DJ inc travel, food, accommodation, etc.... they are going to work out much cheaper than any traditional wedding band.

Anyways my question is can anyone recommend a non-wedding band similar to these guys worth checking out even if they never did a wedding in their lives. As I see it, a gig is a gig! Thanks

If you put a post in the bands sticky at the top of this forum, please include a date and general area where the wedding is and bands will reply if theyre available.

If you're still finding it real hard to get someone, get in contact with the music agencies, they have lots of 2-3 piece bands and will know who's free of all of them. send me a pm and I'll send you some back but try the bands sticky first

Thanks. It is next June in Connemara. I've checked the band section of this but only two replies.

Ah theyre usually ok, theyll put a loading on for themselves on any fee but if youre struggling to find a band, you could ring an agent and he'll have 15-20 bands on his books.

Its kind of a vicious circle, most bars are agent run now, they tend to mostly use only bands that are signed with them so unless you get lucky hitting the hotels or weddingsonline for a list of bands, ringing them all, then randomly turning up to a wedding where theyre playing, hoping theyre good, you might not get lucky.

Most bands dont have good business people who exploit social media either, theyre musicians relying on good word to spread or not even caring about it, the best 3 piece wedding band in the world could be playing in your local bar this weekend but you might not know about it. Another band might only be half as good, be pushing themselves online as "The best band in the world", youll read a few random recommendations online as "they were brill" you go see them, think theyre ok, book them asyoure worried you might not get anyone else, leaves you with a big meh factor though and people at your wedding are wholly underwhelmed and they post online, "wedding bands are crap and overpriced" where if they seen the other really good band theyed really understand what a good band is.

Nature of the beast Im afraid. Check out "the funky buskers". might be out of your price range and coming from dublin, but are a 3 piece and are really really good.

I know exactly what you mean. The band we want was a stumble into a pub in Liverpool and though we were doing a bit of a pub crawl ended up staying the night and going back the second night!
