Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could give me some feed back?
I started a course in GMIT which I am very unhappy in, so I'm thinking I would really like to do arts in nuig next year instead, I will be 20 going on 21!
I was in the college today and noticed a lot of fresh looking faces, would I find it hard to fit in? I'm female and look quiet old for my age. I'd really like to enjoy the college experience and make friends!

Thanks so much, did you find it hard to make friends? My friends will be finishing up around the time I start so don't want to be too dependent on them.

I saw two 60 year olds on the concourse today. I'd say you'll be ok :)

You'll be fine. I was nearly 23 going into Arts last year and there was plenty older than me on the course.
Age doesn't matter and certainly wont be a factor in you fitting in or not

You'll be 20 going on 21 and wondering if thats too old for Arts ?

What part of the college were you in that you only seemed to notice the 'fresh young faces' ?

I'm 40 and started an arts degree in NUIG last year. Second year kicks off in earnest tomorrow and I can't wait. A very sizable proportion of those at lectures are well over the age of 20. I've made friends with people much younger, much older than myself and with many my own age.

At 20 or 21 you really shouldn't be thinking you're too old for anything when it comes to college. Jesus, you're not even old enough to be considered a mature student. They have to be at least 23 and even that is very young.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

I'm 32 and started an Arts degree in UCD last week. I'm far from the oldest person there. You're not too old. You're definitely not too old. Yes, the majority of people are 17/18, but there are also likely to be a lot of people in their early 20s, who, like you, chose Arts after other courses didn't work out.

    You'll be grand.
