I'm using my TV as a monitor (above recommend resolution) and have issues.

Firstly, the recommend one is 1360 x 768. I don't like it. I want it at 1600x900. That's so I can play games in window mode at resolution without it being too small (800x600) or having the bottom of the screen cut off (720).

Here's the issues: the colour/brightness/whatever seems "off" to me. I was used to the default settings for about 1.5 months and I'm slightly worried I'm either going to strain my eyes or damage the TV or something.
Is this something I'll get used to and the TV is fine or is it that I need to work at recommend resolution/get a proper monitor.

It's 21 inches diagonally and about 25inch screen. I'm about 40 inches away from it and quite comfortable sitting at this distance.

If I was to get a new monitor, I'd get this one: http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/2574699/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7COffice%252C%2BPCs%2Band%2Bphones%7C14418968/c_2/3%7Ccat_19780850%7CComputers%2Band%2Bmonitors%7C14419111/Trail/searchtext%3EMONITOR.htm

Which is 21 inches and works at 1080p.
Is there a recommended view distance for monitors. If so, what's the ideal one for 21 inch monitor at 1080p.
