Hi I am just looking for any information anyone can give me on cohabiting with your partner on the dole , I myself am on €85 a week and my partner on €188 + €57 ( rent allowance ) . I'm just wondering what would happen if I moved in with my partner , would I be cut money? Would he be cut money / rent allowance ? Would it be a good idea to state we are cohabiting at all?
    Any help ???

If you became a qualified adult on his claim he would get €124 pw for you
Not sure about your rent allowance unless he's already getting it or you decided to get a place together .
You's would get more but your minimum contribution increases but you over all RA makes it better off for some people.

Co habiting undeclared will result in trouble for both of you's .
More and more get caught every week

Thank you your information was really helpful . He is already living on his own and getting rent allowance , we would like it if I was able to move in with him but we're unsure of what way it would affect us both if I did. Would you know of what way to go about it ? Would we go together and say I am moving in with him before I move in or move in and let them know? How do I notify them ?

You both need to go in together and apply to have you added to his claim as an adult dependant. He will get extra money for you (€124 per week) and his rent allowance will be the same - however you will have to pay more per week towards it yourselves as there are two of you.

The application is just a form with your details on it and then he collects both of your payments, and only he needs to sign on.
Why are you only on €85 per week though? If you are working or have large savings/own property, it changes things.

Rather than being an adult dependent, I would always advise people to have a claim in their own right (if your aim is to return to employment). Being an adult dependent locks you out of many training, education and other schemes.

It does? I'm a qualified adult on my OH's claim and they told me in the office that I was fully entitled to go for the same training opportunities and schemes as before, but I just wouldn't be hassled about it? :(
