An anti-smoking guru who has helped millions of smokers kick the habit has died from lung cancer.

Allen Carr, 72, quit his 100-a-day habit 23 years ago, before going on to become a millionaire by advising people on how to stop smoking.

    sort of ironic...

supposedly helped 10 million people give up smoking, I must give his methods a shot nothing else has worked for me!

any boardsie can vouch for his techniques?

    RIP

Hey guys, did you hear Michael Jackson died?!

It's not really that ironic if he smoked 100 fags a day for decades. That kind of habit does permanent damage and will increase your life long risk of cancer.

It would have been ironic if he had been killed by a giant anti smoking billboard crushing him to death, but that didn't happen (unless there's some kind of massive cover-up)

I read the title and thought it was Alan Carr for a minute.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I have a feeling its one of these threads where the OP, doesnt know anything about the person. But it was the headline, so they threw in it on after hours with a link and the usual "may he/she rest in peace"

I loved his seagull like voice and smashed delph for teeth. I knew he liked his fags though.

    R.I.P.

The 'most read' article section on the BBC website always has loads of articles that are often years old. OP just assumed it happened today, and never spotted the date! :D

I read his book about alcohol nearly ten years ago and haven't touched a drop since nor will I ever.

All bullsh*t sentiment aside, this guys book did change my miserable life.

It's more likely the passive smoking from being around smokers for decades did it tbh

Those Allen Carr books are great. When I gave up smoking in 2005 they really helped me.

And the next time I give up smoking I will read his book again.

In fairness if it wasn't for that bloody wall in Berlin, the Germans would have a much stronger team. :(.

Yeah. I amend my previous. Dying on stage would do, to the extent that he might go and do something else.

Jackie Gleeson used to smoke upwards of a 100 a day, Humphrey Bogart also. I don't understand how the addiction can get to the point where your basically sucking on one like a soother for every waking minute of the day.

Noticed this a lot on the BBC website lately-In the "most read" section a story like this appears and you're like wtf I thought that happened years ago-then check the date and it was-think its because it's linked to some other related story.

I didn't realise they had found America, I still thought the earth was flat. Who is this Columbus dude everyone keeps talking about. And why is St. Brendan bitching about him?

There really is no coming back from this OP, I'm sorry. Cut your losses, cancel your account and start a new one. There's no shame in it.

His book worked a treat for me. It was essentially repetitive self hypnotism but it worked. I am off them since lunchtime.

Aside from OPs "We landed on the moon!" moment.

I used his book. It's very good.
