Just beginning to commute by bike to work on friday and worried about punctures, anyone any experience with liners? are they worthwhile?

    Sorry no,
Buy two spare tubes, pump, somewhere to keep the bits (practice how t works) and ride like a mad yoke ;)

I used tyre lining strips once on my MTB and found no improvement in puncture resistance and more hassle in changing a tube and getting the strip back in place afterwards

Never tried then. Puncture resistant tyres on mine. Still get punctures just not as many.

Buy a good set of tyres is my advice. Continental GP4000s are my tyre of choice at the moment.

I've used them on a MTB before. Not mine, but one I maintained for someone. He was using premium Conti tyres with well-advertised puncture protection (even guarantees against punctures) but still got them, so I stuck some of those green plastic strips in and it seemed to solve the problem. He did a lot of cycling on footpaths and cyclepaths though.

If you're not overly concerned about weight/rolling resistance and do a lot of urban/city riding consider puncture resistant tyres such as:

    Schwalbe Marathon Plus (bombproof)
    Panaracer Ribmos
    Continental Gatorskins

Yeah might just go with the Marathon pluses. Can't get gatorskins in the size I'm looking for.
