Back to Education Allowance and Working

My partner has been working over the summer and this week started back studying on the back to education allowance. He went into the dole office today and they told him that he had to resign from his job in order to get the BTEA...but he can work part time with the BTEA...what the hell!?
This seems so backwards to me as he may not even get his job back if he were to have to re-apply for it.

Does anyone know a way around this?

    Thanks :)

thats just the crazy rules they have with the btea, there a so many different rules that can be enforced or not by certain welfare offices etc, from what i know you have to be on dole before the course starts then can get part time work during the course with the btea but when course is over have to leave job and back on dole to get btea the next year

You have to be receiving a welfare payment for a period before being granted BTEA- the time frame seems to change every few years but I think it's for 12 months now. Once you've been granted it you have it for the duration of your course- you don't get it in the summer but you can work during the summer or go back on JA. While you're in college you're allowed to work part time as long as you're still in college for classes.

I understand what you're saying about your partners job, but I suppose the whole point of BTEA is to get people off the live register into education and into a job. There's not a way around it, but it is a bit ridiculous for people who want to get a better education but who already have a job. There should be even something for people who are working to take a part course with BTEA, and keep their job, but there isn't.
