    That's an intriguing possibility. :> You know how there's been lion and even elephant remains found in early Egyptian tombs? I bet it would be easier to get some decent DNA from those than say, 10.000 year old mammoths...

    I remember reading once about a large Chinese tomb where the preserved remains (or were they just bones?) of practically all known birds from the empire were found neatly catalogued along with their respective live depictions. If I'm not mistaken, more than one species was discovered in that tomb...
