I broke David Quinn

David Quinn, that beacon of tolerance and enlightenment, was telling outlandish stories about Iona "Institute" cause of the day "Surrogacy". I called him out on his "abuse" bull****, "parentage questioning" and random "whatabout" scenarios. He got so flustered that he started playing man not ball (offense that would get him carded/banned here lol)

    Edit, Clatification.
He basically states that kids in families that don't subscribe to his norm will be at huge risk of abuse. Foster/adoption/surrogate are all 'breaking' families and tearing kids from natural mother.

You made it to the block list? Sarklor and myself have been residents for a long time..

Is boards going to get sued now? We can't have free speech, unless it is his speech.

This is a bit childish tbh – posting screenshots and tweeting other people to show them what a legend you are :-/

It's David Quinn, head of iona. Considering what he does, anything that shows his true colours is needed.
I have had many arguments with people that never see the light of day but to get that response, from a man like him, was different

It's comparatively mild compared to some things I've seen on Twitter, including from far better known public figures than Quinn (Dawkins I'm lookin' atchoo!)

While Quinn may not be a very public figure he is still the head of iona. Dawkins does not lobby our government on his views.

David Quinn and iona are a direct danger to the rights of people of Ireland. He is entitled to his views but he is not entitled to attempt to force others to live by those views, imho, and I will call him out on his attempts to do so.
Today iona sent Breda O Brien onto the radio, again, to slam the "moral" message over the airwaves, in relation to surrogacy this time. All in the name of "balance"

I caught some of her rant accidentally earlier on the car radio. Had to change channels, that woman grinds my gears.

Some cancer treatments aren't successful, ohmigod, stop cancer research immediately! That's basically the 'logic' of the Catholic Taliban.

She bugs me too, as do all from that organisation. He, as the head, gets special attention. So yeah, it may be childish to post that but it is also a great way to let people see how completely false their argument is and what they react like, when publicly challenged

I'm not exactly the president of the David Quinn Fan-Club but is that all he said?

The screenshot on this thread is nothing to write home about.

Mod: OP, what exactly is the point of this thread, have you something to discuss?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,656 ✭✭✭norrie rugger

That's not all he said, of course. It's the last of huge long thread of him attempting to avoid questions by throwing out scenarios or misrepresenting what was said. They usually just troll enough to make people give up arguing but I was to annoyed to give up and let them drag the argumemt off topic like they usually do

Mod: yeah, but my net connection has gone down. The Iona institute has come out on a massive anti adoption/fostering/surrogacy drive, they have yet to explain why though, other than a vague traditional family value message

    disappointing thread is disappointing.
there's a difference between proving someone wrong and telling them they're wrong, and you didn't manage the more impressive one.

They have opinions, based on emotion and belief. You would cure the world of all religion if you could disprove those.

I know yeah, tis a bit ironc sounding. :D
I suppose that the difference is that he wants laws in place to force his values on people, where I think he is free to have his values but everyone else should be free to have theirs too

Every group or stakeholder (you included) in society in some way or form wants to force their values on people, unless you believe in anarchy.

OP could you provide screen shots of your twitter reaction to Dawkins recent Downs syndrome comments? Also, Iona may be complete ar*eholes but they are as entitled to lobby government as you are. Its a free country.

Dawkins is a tool and not relevant to Irish policy. I'm more than happy to have a free country, do you really think that is what iona wants? And should they go unchallenged

If they come out publicly against adoption, a lot of people are going to get very angry, and rightly so.

Adopted people still have enough guff to put up with in this country without the iOnanists getting on their case.

I find it surprising that they would, as the RCC facilitated/encouraged/forced tens of thousands of adoptions in this country, legal and illegal, and 'but adoption' is the usual anti-choice argument.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

I'll dig out the comments if you want. This is the director of the "institute" mind, not iona itself

Really can't see any reason to leave this thread open. Plenty of threads on Iona already.
