Seeing a lot 14* of these on the road and it got me curious. I thought it might be due to the 2015 model coming out however a quick look on carzone is showing several listed as commercials. Link for example.

If they are commercial then a business can claim the VAT back and pay commecial tax with full seating for 5. I'm guessing these also have reduced VRT as they are commercial?? All seem to be around the 55-60k price with the exception of one HSE which is 82k??

Are they treated the same as crew cab pickups or how does it work with revenue? Be very intresting if its all compliant with revenue etc but would hate to get caught out if I'm missing something.

The Discovery Utility meets the criteria for the European Type N1 commercial classification, that was recognised as a vehicle category by Ireland in October 2011.

All VAT is reclaimable on these vehicles. I believe commercial tax is a possibility, if you sign a goods only declaration saying it will only ever be used for commercial purposes (which I think we all know will be a lie for 99% of the purchasers of these vehicles).

Recently they've gone up to €57,460 ex. works. Metallic is €1,060 then whatever the dealer tries to charge for delivery (usually €1,000).

They are the same standard specification as the 7 Seat XE model, just missing the rear row of seats, and I think have a smaller centre screen - possible one other small thing missing as well.

I think all new Crew Cabs are now category N1 vehicles, so it's essentially the same as an L200 / Ranger as far as the various taxes are concerned.

Yeah, has something to do with the size of the boot.

    Thanks R.O.R

So the 82k one with the rear seats loses teh boot space and doesn't qualify hence the pic differential I guess

The XE is purely only available as a Utility now. If you want a 7 seater, you have to go for the HSE.

You can get the larger multimedia screen in the Utility, it's just not possible to specify sat nav.

My OH was asking the same question lately as they were thinking about getting one for the business as it's growing. My conclusion was to to buy it as a commercial through the business. About 900 a year cheaper to tax to start......lol

You can still buy the 7 seater in both XE and HSE spec.

The Utility is the same spec as the XE less the rear seats and parcel shelf. They opened up the options for the 2014 model to give a spec close to the HSE, elec.seats, sat-nav etc.

The difference in price is down to a different VRT rate for this @ 13.3%
