    Hi!
    I am currently working part-time and have been offered full-time hours in a different company, which I've accepted.
    My current employer wants one month notice but my new job starts in two. My current employer won't budge. What should I do?? Any advice would be appreciated!

    1 month is the standard. I have handled this in the past by explaining to my new employers that I can't just walk out without due notice. As employers they will understand this as they wouldn't like it happening to them.

    If your contract says one month then really you should honour it. Have you talked to your new employer to let them know the situation. Any decent company will realise the situation and should be flexible.

    Thanks for the replies. I've only been in my job 5 weeks but I guess it's best to work out the notice.

    If you're only there 5 weeks and working only part time, a months notice may not be necessary. It depends on your contract.

    If you are only there 5 weeks and the current employer is telling you a month tbh thats a bit rich. I thought you had worked there longer and based my advice accordingly. Unless there is a compelling reason for you to work that month the current employer should have some flexibility to let you go after two weeks notice. The worse case scenario is that you won't get a reference from them if you go early. In that case I would leave them off your CV in the future.

    what does your contract say? If you dont have a contract then you only owe them the legal minimum. which would be a week. If you do have a contract then you owe them what is in the contract.
