Saw this on the Dublin airport twitter.

.@Finnair to fly 6x per week from @DublinAirport to Helsinki from March 2015 with onward connections to Asia.

good news, they used to provide great service for reasonable prices, but it felt like they have difficulties keeping up with competition. Will definitely use them if the price is right, Vantaa is a much nicer and quieter place to transfers, comparing to other major hubs

Great news, lots of the old legacies returning now. I think Austrian (hope) could give it a go too.

Another GC option to Tokyo, yay! Hope the schedule permits connections to far east.

Well Finnair main business angle is easy connections to Asia. They have been using their geographical location as a positive sell for Asian connection, similar to how EI are currently using their own geographical location to promote transfers via DUB to the US. (Obviously EI have the CBP bonus as well)

Good to see it happening. Hopefully it will work out for them!

Fantastic news for me as i travel between Ireland and Finland a lot! And I have ff status with finnair already. The Norwegian flight dub-hel was jammed yesterday. And cost me over 400 euro one way to my destination. Finnair quoting 250 euro return to my regional airport in Finland next April. Some difference!

I have often thought a merger between Finnair and EI would be great. Funnel traffic west through Dublin and east through Helsinki

    Operated by Flybe (E90!) !!

E90s are fairly comfortable planes, bar the potential claustrophobia of being in a plane that size for that long it shouldn't be an issue otherwise.

I've flown on them and in my experience they are not claustrophobic at all, especially compared to the likes of BAE 146. They feel quite spacious for their size actually, and a lot more comfortable than turbo-props. I'd prefer them to all other types for short haul due to the above and also the convenience of a 2-2 seating for a family of 4!

3hr+ flight is quite lengthy for that size aircraft all the same.

As frankly are the three other main Scandinavian hub airports at Oslo Gardermoen, Stockholm Arlanda, and my personal favourite, Copenhagen Kastrup.

All designed to make transiting a simple process.

maybe embraer is slower but 737-800 did it well under three yesterday.

does kastrup have free wifi? I cant remember...of all of them Helsinki is my favourite by far but I also spend a lot more time there than the others and know it inside out. has a great relaxation zone / lounge for everyone, even had fold flat chairs and bed cubicles for a while. Think they are gone now.

    According to post #10, 3hrs 10 mins.

Kastrup only has wifi in the exec. lounge and Gardermoen has patchy wifi which we never got to work properly.

Yeah Dublin and Helsinki are best in Europe for WiFi. Helsinki best for power points and general comfort. Food can be pricey though but better than other Scandinavian airports. That embraer aircraft is fine imo. Its small but the journey isn't too bad. Preferable to transferring in another airport for those of us who take that route frequently. As a frequent economy short haul passenger Finnair look after me well too. Lovely lounges.. particularly the non schengen area one in Helsinki is gorgeous.

Excellent news as I fly to East Asia regularly and flying via Helsinki could cut off many hours of flying time with the great circle route over Russia. Finnair have access to alot of connections in the Asian Pacific with codeshares on Oneworld partner Cathay Pacific out of Hong Kong.

If Putin pulls the plug on overflying Russia then it could be a very long detour around to Hong Kong.

Excellent news for DUB and the consumer.. I hope the announcements of new routes and carriers for 2015 doesn't stop there. I have friends in Helsinki so will definitely be availing of this route when it begins and visa versa.

As others have mentioned DUB is great for the super fast free wifi the DAA get criticised a lot and mostly justly but that's one good thing about DUB.

Dublin airport is one of the nicest in Europe now. Definitely prefer it to any of the UK, French or german airports. Length of security queues are my only complaint..

It's only September plenty of time for more announcements for next year.

Heathrow is certainly improving itself. Having used T2 this week with Aerlingus, the new T2 in Heathrow is fantastic, security was swift. I imagine transferring to another airline in T2 would be very quick.

Only gripe about Dublin for me is the Garda passport check, ridiculous queues to have someone glance at my passport. The sooner this issue is sorted out the better. I could have been off the plane and in my car in 5 mins instead it took 20+.

So these are a wet lease flybe operation?
Interestingly it has a business class cabin,an extortionate €750 return though.
Being one world they'd have to offer business I suppose.
In dummy bookings I wasn't able to book an ex dub in business to say Bkk which airlines often incentivise price wise compared to their hubs.
This is whitebriars last post on boards.ie

    Not quite.

Flybe have a joint venture with Finnair, called Flybe Nordic. They operate the Embraer fleet for Finnair for one. The onboard service on the Finnair services is Finnair standard.

Business class fares on newly announced flights are always sky high. Lower cost fare buckets are generally not loaded into booking systems from day 1..
