    hey peeps!
hopefully someone can help me out as I am long out of the income tax game.
my boyfriend is a paye employee and he was asked to do some freelance IT work. they now need an invoice. is it necessary for him to register for anything or can he invoice on the basis of his pps number and then register for income tax?
this is the first time he's done this and I don't have experience in that area to advise him
    cheers!

How much are we talking about and had he any expenses? If for argument sake the invoice was for €1,000 I would imagine he could ring revenue and tell them this and they may adjust his tax credits to take it into account. Wouldn't be worth the haste of registering and submitting a tax return if it was small and a one of Job

Yes he can just invoice and look after tax later. He doesn't have to do anything to invoice.

See below for the criteria of filing out a Form 12 instead of the more labourious Form 11.

"An individual with a PAYE source of income and with total gross income from all non-PAYE sources (including income subject to DIRT), of
€50,000 or more is regarded as a ‘chargeable person’ for Self-Assessment and must file a Form 11 for that year.
    3. An individual with a PAYE source of income and with net assessable non-PAYE income (including income subject to DIRT) of €3,174 or
more is regarded as a ‘chargeable person’ for Self-Assessment and must file a Form 11 for that year."
