Make up make over - where's best?

I've been wearing Elizabeth Arden flawless finish for more than 20 years ( wow that's scary!!) but it's just not doing it for me anymore. I'd like to go and get a make up makeover. The obvious solution would be Arnotts or Debenhams, but has anyone any recommendations for particular brands or counters they found helpful? The last time I did one, I ended up looking a bit orange in daylight, it was fine under the store lights. So I sent straight back to my old makeup.

I'm a Double Wear girl but my tip is to tell the person doing your make up that you're going outside to check it in natural light, check with a small mirror (or take a selfie if you must!) then pop back in to adjust if necessary!

My advice would be to look at all the shades first and decide yourself if they actually have a shade suitable for you and if not, move on to the next counter.

I have very pale skin and wanted to try the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. I had a look first and thought the shades all seemed a bit too dark for me but the woman at the Chanel counter kept saying "oh they look much darker in the bottle, let me try a sample" so she put on the lightest shade they had and it was orange on me. She then tried to convince me to buy it by saying "well if you blend it down your neck to your collarbone you won't notice the difference", oh yeah because a €40 bottle of foundation is going to last ages if I'm basically using it as body paint!

I have 3 different liquid Lancome foundations, my favourite is the Miracle Air de Teint one, 1 bareMinerals powder foundation and some high street brands which I bought just to try but nothing compares to my Lancome foundations. I find the Lancome shade selection for pale skin like mine very good.
However, I have never found any particular make up counter anywhere to be particularly good.
