    Hi all,

I got a filling in my local dentist about 2 weeks ago, problem was it fell out on the day it got put in within a matter of hours! Being a Friday I had no choice to wait till the Monday to go back down and when I did I was informed it was my own fault that it had nothing to do with them and if I wanted to get it fixed I would have to pay again.

Is there anyway I can appeal this it was a private dentist so I'm not to sure what to do.

Was it a white filling on the biting edge of a front tooth?

Yes, funny enough I had not eaten anything hard that day. Was a while after I brushed my teeth I noticed it missing I can't say that was the cause or not cause as I did not feel anything I just suddenly noticed it was missing.

Yes I never had a problem with any replacements. Reason why it broke that I had a bicycle accident. I have a habit of biting on biros and chewing sweets etc and it never broke I do often forget it is there actually.

Each time it comes off, the filling is getting a little bigger. I suspect your dentist probably told you it needs a crown.

Tidied the thread there lads, stop making work for me please.

OP a filling should last more than one day, however a dentist will often put some limitations on treatment if it is compromised. I generally would not charge to replace a filling that fell out in 24 hours but thats me. It could be a simple bond failure of bite issue and a replacement will work, or it could be that the tooth needs a crown and the dentist is trying to tide you over.

Most dentist I know will tell you what the recommended treatment is, its limitations and less successful alternatives.

Could someone recommend a dentist in the Dublin 5 area so, I don't want to go back to my local dentist.

Got tooth filled today, dentist pointed out the tooth wasn't prepared correctly and wasn't impressed with pins other dentist put in, more or less said no wonder it broke. Took nearly a hour to fill the tooth appose to the other dentist that took 15 minutes.

Moral of the story do your home work first.

An example of how the standard of dental work can vary greatly from dentist to dentist and how the patient loses out when the work is not of the best standard.

It's a reminder to people to choose their dentist with great care.
