Prepaid Tax on Employee Stock Options

We were offered shares in our company which we bought and pre-paid capital gains tax on them based on price we were being offered them at and price they were supposed to be worth once company floated. This was supposed to happen 3 years ago. So company decided to postpone floatation - hopefully will happen at later date.

Now I have paid 6K to revenue and they are now trying to treat me as a self employed person when I have no other income - simple PAYE worker.

Is there any way I can claim back what I prepaid or can I just use against any future liabilities in my name?
