I'm looking at traveling next February for a honeymoon, my main requirement is SNOW!

I was looking at the ICE hotel in Quebec but it is rather expensive!

We were hoping to include New York and Boston, so can anyone recommend somewhere within a few hours of either New York or Boston that has affordable flights back to Dublin has also has a nice Snow resort, somewhere that we can trek though the countryside on a snowmobile etc

    Any ideas?

My suggestion would be North Conway, Bartlett, Bretton woods area of New Hampshire, it is roughly a 2.5 hour drive from Boston airport. You are in the White Mountains a great winter activities area.

For snowmobile hire etc there is a website you can check out www.northernextremesnowmobiling.com

    Hope this helps.

hey there, are you set on New York/America?? We have been to Lapland twice now, it is stunning! Now I am a snowaholic so I dont know if you want snow snow but if so its beautiful. They also have the ice hotel there and lots of different special nights to do. Theres a lovely place where you can stay in an all glass igloo for a night, star gazing and hoping for nothern lights! and sleigh rides, snow mobiling, all very romanatic! Not the cheapest place to go, but so worth it. Ill see if I can find pics...

A few days in Vermont, a few in Montreal or Quebec City. All really nice this time of year...

Thanks for all the suggestions, much appreciated.

snowgal I had hoped for http://www.kakslauttanen.fi/en/accommodation/ but sadly my wife isn't up for that, so New York and somewhere upstate is the compromise.

I'm now thinking fly into Boston stay there with family for a few days, then White Mountain and maybe even Mt Washington for a few days then New York for a few days.

Alternative is Vermont then Boston and then New York, adding Montreal or Quebec adds expense and travel time that may not be worth it if Vermont or White Mountain can offer similar.

Boston is a funny old town weather wise,it can sometimes be on the border of where a northeaster is rain rather than snow.
You could be unlucky too and find very little snow but the Vermont option increases your chances.
Over all though whilst it might be dry in Boston,it would be very unusual not to have snow cover in the mountains you suggest so that is a good plan anyway.

I've not been to any of the East coast ski resorts but I have been to Whistler near Vancouver and it's mighty, you could consider there?
It's a short drive down to Seattle too with plenty of mountains around.
    The scenery is something else!
BA have a sale on at the moment by the way and theres no terminal change in London anymore (from 0ctober 26th) so you'd fly into Terminal five and out of it both to Dublin and the states/Canada
    Downside no immigration pre clearance.
Sample BA Dublin Vancouver flights return pp out on feb 5th back on feb 19th come in at €542 p.p but choose the ba flights back to Dublin as Aer lingus code shares are also available but mean a terminal change to T2 whereas BA to Dublin is in T5,the same place as the vancouver flights.

Cheers whitebriar, ya Boston caught me out three years ago, we went in February and saw no snow!

The main reason for Boston visit this time is to see family and get a few free nights accommodation but it might be worth looking at the Vancouver flights and seeing what options are available in the time frame we have allowed.

Is driving that time of the year an issue or are the routes kept clear regardless of weather?

Main routes are usually very clear but even side roads are done well, except maybe during heavy snow.
Americans tend to pile the snow high and clear the roads.access to ski resorts should be a doddle.
Obviously rent a 4WD vehicle though.
