Myself and my partner had been visiting my nephew in Crumlin hospital today. The Kilkenny vs Tipp match was on. On route home at 7pm we were on the M7 and cars were squeezing in anywhere they could in traffic. Next of all. This asshole driver of N Calanan bus comes flying down the inside lane indicating into bumper to bumper traffic. We were just at the end of his bus when he decides they better move out of my way and edges over to us. We, luckily had some space beside us to move out of the way and get up ahead of him. To which he sticks up his fingers and beeps like mad. Me being furious gave him the finger back. Next of all he over takes us and slows down beside our window to beep and proceed to give us the finger. Then cut in front of us again. So I took the number off the back of the bus to ring it. It was his and he hung up on me. Stuck the phone out the window and as we passed by proceeded again to stick up his fingers at us. Absolute ignorant disgrace. He is so lucky my partner didnt stop because I had to calm him down. Were all trying to get home at the end of the day but this wanker wants to put people off the road and cause trouble. If somehow the driver finds this your licence plate has been forwarded to the guards. Good luck with that one DICKHEAD!!!

sounds to me like you caused that by not allowing him to filter into traffic and hogging the overtaking lane.

Your description is rather confusing to be honest.

He was moving down the inside lane and according to your description his lane was clear while you were in the outside lane and making less progress than the bus. What exactly happened next; who moved where and why?

You and your partner sound like reasonable types OP.

So, the bus driver proceeds to move into a gap in traffic, but you decide to put the foot down and try and prevent him. Charming

I read it as the bus driver decided to force his way in regardless... I see it all the time myself in traffic. Other drivers will see a gap as cars move off and just switch lanes without any heed to the car behind them in that lane which is probably also moving

I would have thought that myself but the correct thing for the car driver to do is be aware of the bus trying to merge and be courteous and let the bus in ahead of them for safety and also to be courteous to other road users.

Rude gestures and sounding the horn is not the way to go.

I'd say it very much depends on the situation. If someone is looking for a gap, indicating and waiting, I'd be inclined to let them in

If someone comes tearing up the inside lane and then tries to force their way in past me when they run out of road, well that's a bit different!

the point (or one point is) if the coach was able to tear up the inside lane, then the OP was in the wrong lane.

Not necessarily.. OP mentioned the N/M7. Assuming it was the M50/N7 junction it always happens that cars/buses/whatever come flying up this from the M50 and then try to force their way in when the merge ends.

Why is "Luxury" in inverted commas? Wasn't the bus comfortable or luxurious? I'm sure you'd have been able to see inside from the saddle of your high horse.

i'd imagine the point is that the coach trip couldn't be luxury if its taring around the place and the driver apparently acting the magget. but i don't know as i wasn't there

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

I think the OP thinks he's being clever

It's also worth noting that - juvenile attacks on the OP aside - the OP was under no obligation to let the coach merge ahead of them. The coach/merging traffic must give way to traffic already on the main-line

So all the hogging overtaking lane/high horse stuff becomes kinda moot really.

If someone comes tearing up beside me on the left (or right!) and then tries to force their way in ahead of me regardless - and probably in an unsafe manner - I wouldn't take kindly to it either.. and anyone who says otherwise here is just being disingenuous

I'd take the flying up the inside lane bit with a pinch of salt, tbh. Generally phrases like that indicate some form of exaggeration is taking place.

If other cars were coming up the inside and indicating into the lane, then surely the bus could be doing no more than matching the speed of the traffic ahead of it? I'd reckon the only mistake the driver made was to dare move in ahead of the OP. Some folks are fierce defensive about "their" patch of tarmac.

well if this is the case, the OP is also wrong as you should allow vehicles to merge, not do your damndest to stop them

You're inferring that the OP moved to block the bus rather than the bus trying to force his way in regardless, perhaps with a "mine is bigger" attitude which is quite possible if the driver's behaviour afterwards - as the OP tells it - is accurate.

In any case, neither of us was there so we don't really know and while drivers should be courteous where possible/safe to do so, as I said earlier a driver already on the main line is neither obligated or required to let a vehicle merge ahead of them.. merging traffic must yield to traffic already there.

I think that's what the OP said, they moved over to the right hand side of their lane and continued past him, despite him already starting moving into their lane.

Don't forget their version might not be entirely unbiased.

Without seeing exactly where this happened, but in general the rule where 2 lanes merge into one is that vehicles should merge in turn. So if the vehicle to your left or right is ahead of you, let it go and take your turn next. From the OP it states "we were at the end of the bus" which suggests that the bus was in a position in front of the OPs car and that the OP should allow the bus to merge and then continue themselves.

to all who responded he was beepong furiously at us giving finger gestures. and pushed onto our lane when even though he seen we were beside him. if there was space OBVIOUSLY we would let him in but no he just pushed us out.
it said luxury because thats how he advertised his bus luxury coaches...

    how do i delete this?

some people just make up their own situations in there head as if we were in the wrong.

so I just couldny be bothered listening to people down my neck when we were almost ran off the road. despite his hand gestures and ignorance

You can't. You can ask a moderator to, although I fail to see why they would.

Unless Mr N Calanan makes a complaint, anonymous people making unfounded allegations against easily identifiable people. Bit risky leaving it there maybe.

Once upon a time, long, long ago..when people had a complaint about an organisation...they complained to the organisation.

    I know! Concept, right?

    Give it a whirl!
