    Morning All

I currently have a well for my water, however the power from this is on the meter of an old house on my site and billed seperately....

So, i'm running two meters, which means two bills!

is it a huge job to get this older house onto my meter?

    help and advice appreciated!

I wouldn't advise getting rid of the meter in the older house. The reconnection costs from esbn ,should you ever need a meter again will be massive. They will charge you for a new supply. How much is the bill for the older house. Is there any possibility that the older house will be occupied in the future.
It's hard to know how easy a job to connect both houses to same meter without more info. How close are houses together.

to clarify, the old house will be converted into a garage!

houses are probably 200 metres apart, and both taking power from the same pole within the site

i was hoping i (my electrician who i must ring tomorrow) could intercept the main power cable for the old house and send it to my fuseboard

Have you the ducting already buried? If so, you can either suck a string through the ducting, or blow it through. 200 metres is a good long length. Are there many joiners on the ducting, and are they well made?
Either way, get a ball of baler twine, the blue polypropelene stuff for round bales. Use the end that comes out of the centre of the roll of twine. Tie it to a piece of brush handle, that's a loose fit in the ducting, a piece about 3 inches long. Round off the front end, kind of like a bullet point. Feed this into the ducting, and then either using a road compressor or a farmers slurry tanker, blow the "bullet" through the pipe. then use the twine to pull a stronger type rope through. You can suck it through using the slurry tanker either, if you prefer, from the other end.

top man, that's kinda exactly what I was hoping I could do

the ducting is well buried at this stage, so the less digging the better!

No problem. The main thing is that the "bullet" is not too tight a fit, you don't want it getting jammed somewhere, and then the string breaking when you try pulling it back. The volume of air will drive the bullet no problem, even with lots of space between it and the wall of the ducting.

You will need to get a new cable to your fuse board in order to isolate it and install tripswitch. Your best bet IMHO is a new duct between your distribution board and "garage". Depending on the run an swa cable may be sufficient but ducting gives options for phone line and alarm cables

It's most likely that your current set up has 2 seperate ducts
The problem here will be how to get a cable from your board to the garage duct.
