I knew it was Kosminski, even when it was Jack I knew it was Kosminski.

I'm disappointed it's not Noel Edmonds.

I thought it was Bertie "The Ripper"..
He said we should all commit suicide.
Then I saw he ripped us off.

Apparently blood traces on a victims shawl have been linked to Aaron Kosminski, one of the prime suspects at the time. They used DNA from one of his living relatives to test against.

I hate to link to the DM but I can't find it anywhere else. I guess all the conspiracy theories can finally be put to bed if it's legit.

Polish heh... Taking our jobs wasn't good enough, they had to kill our wimmin too.

If it puts all the hacks, mediums, frauds and nutters living off this story out of work, I vote we accept it insistently and uncritically.

I doubt that, even if there was a video confession by whoever was the killer posted onto facebook, there'd be another industry set up around it dismissing it.

I used to listen 'the Rippercast' podcast, but it became such a sceptical discussion on anything related to it, I began to think they didn't believe anything at all happened.

Hmmm. All it proves is that Kominski came in contact with Catherine Edowes, a prostitute, at one stage.

Was Catherine Eddowes a hooker? The DNA on the shawl could be any one of her other clients.

Jeez that last one that was killed got a fair ould going over, she was pretty much hacked to pieces.

He had more time to do his "work".

The police photo of Mary Kelly is creepy. Her face is torn apart and her right thigh has been stripped to the bone.

I can only imagine what the poor policeman felt when he burst open that door.

I keep weirdass hours, and watch a lot of murder shows because they're pretty much always on. What's always weird to me is the lengths they'll go to not to show an actual body, unless it's a show about the Ripper - in which case they just fire ahead with no warning. It's really strange, as if just because the murders were ages ago the effect of the state of the bodies must have worn off.

I've a fairly sturdy constitution, but I must say, I was shocked. Reputation and all aside, what was done was shocking.

Well, it's a fairly old B+W photo and it's difficult to make out what's going on. But I agree, often times a show won't ever contemplate even showing a victims remains.

    There's always the net though!

    :pac:

I think the B+W nature of the photos and the time difference makes producers think that they can get away with it.

The picture of the Mary Kelly crime scene is pretty gruesome alright. No way would that be shown on tv if it related to a modern day crime but I suppose it would be a lot more detailed in that case. You can't really make out too much detail in the old photo thankfully.

I'm not sure I'm convinced by this 'evidence' tbh. Here is a more skeptical article on it from the independent

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/has-jack-the-rippers-identity-really-been-revealed-using-dna-evidence-9717036.html

Even if it is his DNA on the shawl it isn't proof of his guilt. The victim was a prostitute and he was a known 'self abuser' so it's possible that the semen got there at a time other than the murder.

Its not in anyones interest to "solve" the Ripper identity case. There's an entire industry built around the mystery. Expect a new bestseller next year debunking this latest "proof".
We need Jack the Ripper, Nessie, gunmen on the grassy knoll to keep second-rate hacks in employment.

In a trial doubt could be cast especially if there was a whole load of different semen stains but it's defo not looking good for him is it? What's the chances of someone who lives nearby, is Jewish, has a paranoid disorder, was known to hate women, is becoming rapidly more deranged and who's locked away just as the murders stop AND who was with Miss Eddowes, not being the killer?

The new endless industry will be about the provenance of the shawl, I'd guess.

mitochondrial DNA was used to identify Richard III was it not? 1 in 400,000 and a population of 40 million in the UK at the time, so really there's only a possible 100 suspects that could match the DNA?
