Argos have Asus Transformer T100 Intel Atom 10.1 Inch 2GB 32GB Laptop at €299.99 - not a bad price at all and at least €30 less than anywhere else. Can't post link but product code is 145/8369 - Use Checkargos as not in stock everywhere - reserve and collect only

I've been using a transformer for the past 2 years- and love it (not the Intel Atom powered one, an ARM version). I'd have no hesitation in recommending it. Note- its remarkably handy- but its not a work horse- if you need something with a bit of power- you're barking up the wrong tree with this whole genre (though the new Atom chips are totally different to their predecessors).

Argos seem to be shifting some interesting things of late........

Bought the 64GB recently, if the screen size is ok with you, its an excellent piece of kit and a bargain!

These aren't really laptops, they're fancy tablets with keyboards attached so you're probably gonna have problems if you try to run normal windows software on them (eg, if you need it for college, you might have to use software that will not run on those specs)

If you want a proper laptop with windows 8.1 and a touch screen, http://www.simplyasus.com/X102BA-DF049H-ASUS-X102BA-DF049H_1492765.html
is probably as good a deal as you're gonna get for about the same price.

Its an atom. Some celerons are actually atoms also. Those AMD A4 seems very slow when I've tried them.

For office web stuff they are probably fine. If its something more specialised then, probably not suitable.

it does actually run the full version of windows though, not the cut down WinRT Windows tablet OS, which will help a lot.

There's a good review here for anyone thinking of pulling the trigger: http://www.trustedreviews.com/asus-transformer-book-t100_Tablet_review

I have the T700 Infinity, the last Android one they did and it's great, with the only downsides for me being that it wasn't running Windows and Android apps aren't great when it comes to editing office files on them (i.e. with Polaris Office etc.), when you compare them to using MS Office in Windows.

browsing the net, writing emails and watching/streaming video is great though, even at 1080p. the keyboard is much better than your usual add-on keyboards too, very sturdy.

Other than the lack of Windows (and more importantly Windows apps) on my older android one though it's great, small, light and amazing battery life as both sections of it have a separate battery, so you can use the tablet half on its own and when the battery gets low you connect the keyboard and it recharges the screen section from the base to almost double the battery life. mines around 3-4 years old now and I can still get about 8 hours out of it, but I think it was over 10-12 hours when it was new.

it's never going to be a desktop replacement, but for most tasks where size and weight is at a premium though, it's ideal, even better as this one has windows 8 on it.

Just to point out the keyboard battery isnt in this version, but you still get 10-11h out of it

i was about to say that's a shame, but i gues it isn't if you still get decent battery life out of it.

the screen part does look thicker than mine though, although it might just be the angle it was shot from.

not a bad piece of kit but 10 inch screen is really not very usable for ms office work - especially excel. even word is a pain. 11.6 inch screen is min usable imo

    The T100's price recently dropped about 20% on Amazon.co.uk, down to £230 now... approx €290 with free delivery;

Maybe. Last time this happened to me I printed off my confirmation number which has the price. Just walk up to a teller and hand her the page. I got it at the reserved price. Their website states you pay the price on the day you collect though which is very hidden away.

By the way, I think the reason these are suddenly going so cheap is that there's a new, slightly faster model coming. With Z3775 cpu (1.47Ghz as opposed to the 1.33 Ghz of the current Z3740).

Still given the choice I'd rather have the slower one for 50 euro less. The difference is minimal.

Another interesting option is the Acer Aspire Switch 10, it's a similar model (similar features/price) to this and they're coming out with an updated model with Full-HD screen so that is a big upgrade.

Just saying :) I'm considering my options for a new tablet at the moment.

Try Currys lads, bought one of these for £229 online here in London. Might be doing a similar deal in Ireland.

I've had one for nearly a year. Its decent enough for the price, but its really a tablet with a keyboard. Although it runs a full version of windows I find myself reaching for a proper PC if I ever have to do anything important. View it as a tablet with a keyboard if you need it. And there you'll find the real problem, complete lack of apps for windows 8. I actually really like the os for touch interfaces, but if nobody is writing apps for it then that's irrelevant. Although it can run full windows software, you'll find yourself not wanting to because of the trackpad being a bit useless.
