Has anyone any suggestions on good car sourcing businesses in Ireland? I have sent enquiries to lots of garages with very little return in the past week.

You have to do the work yourself, there's pretty much x amount of cars for sale 2nd hand in the country at any one time, most are on either Donedeal, Carzone or Adverts, you won't really find many at all beyond that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭Madman2

what sort of car/cars are you after?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

If you mean you made enquires by email then forget it. Very few dealers seem to respond to emails. You either need to pick up the phone or go into the dealer in person. It's also better to have a clear idea of what you want first before approaching a garage. Of course it's best to browse either the dealer's website or the likes of carzone first to see if there is a particular car you are interested it.

I never have a clear idea what I want. I always expect that the retailer or my second largest life purchase provider will take the time to hire a salesperson who canhelp. They never seem to manage to do this in ireland however. It always seems to revolve around the fact it's cheap, has badge A,B or c, it's cheap to tax, I can have it in silver (or similar shade) or if it's a used diesel no matter what year it'll gave 100k miles on it when I get it and come with the security of a fully falsified service history.

Well I'm of the opinion that if you don't know what you want then it will be very difficult for someone else to know. Of course a good salesperson's job is to convince you that what he/she has is what you want. :D

True but I'd love to be directed to something I never thought of. Usually I look for something sporty and well specced that is suitable for abloke with no kids. I've grown tired of knowledgeable sales people putting me in an Auris/Golf/Focus.

TFB tho I can be influenced, but offer me ****e bad ill loose interest straight away and walk. I've even tried saying it directly but to no avail.

Generally the only way I know I want a car is to drive it.

So in other words you want Derren Brown to convince you that you want a certain type of car, and then you want all the manufacturers to put their version of this car in front of you?!

Why not just put your list of requirements up here and see what people come back with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

Ok thanks. The reason I sent the emails is because I took the time to go to a dealer about getting me a car and he said "Great, now would you go home and fill in one of the enquiry pages on our website and we can send it on to our contacts". But I might call a few others during the week.

I am after a 2011 Honda Accord 2.2 I-DTEC EX saloon with a maximum of 80,000 miles. I have a 2006 VW Passat 1.9TDi 105 S, 132,000 miles, blue, full leather interior, heated front seats, Timing Belt and water pump replaced at 130,000 miles, NCTd to 01 / 2016 and recent service, oil, brake fluid and brake pads changed.

I have €13,500 to go along with my car for a suitable Accord.

Also just wondering if the Honda is worth the premium over a Ford Mondeo Titanium X diesel?

I'd look in the UK for one, the majority of people who bought these here will hold on to them for the cheap tax, in the UK they are more popular and will be easier to find.

Dont know much about your required motor but I had a car imported recently by Meridian motors in Carlow. It was a particulary difficult car to find over here So my only option was a sourcing agent.

I've had dealings with this garage in the past with repairs and servecing and always found them straight up and eay to deal with. Thats the reason I used them to source.

Have to say the whole process went very very smoothly.

Has anyone any suggestions on good car sourcing businesses in Ireland? I have sent enquiries to lots of garages with very little return in the past week.

I've used M6 motors to source an A4 for me and I was very happy with their service. Alan sourced cars for 2 of my friends who will echo my experience.

They will reply to emails also!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

Thanks bulleyes, I actually got a call from Meridian as I had put in a car sourcing request and they are going to keep a look out for me. They had an accord but huge milage and not the model I wanted

Also I would happily go to the UK for one but I am having trouble selling my car!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

Atlantic, I would happily go to the UK but the issue is I am having trouble selling my own car privately.

Bulleyes, I actually got a call from Meridian and they are keezping a lookout for me. They have an Accord but wrong model and double the milage I want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

Sorry for the double post. Yes I got a reply from M6 motors with a few cars.....not what I was after but quite reasonable so hopefully will get something sorted during the week!

I did a quick search there, Honda Accord is relatively scarce in UK for that age. For example, one company has 120+ 2011 Passats in stock, and one 2011 Accord (estate with over 100k miles). Mondeo Titanium X would be easier to source.

I think a sourcing company would need exceptional contacts to come up with the Accord you want. It might take a while, but one will come up eventually !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

Thanks for that. Would even go for a 2010 with decent milage but no point taking something for the sake of it. The Accord will be powerful, reliable, well equipped and comfortable so will be holding onto it for a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Are you sure you really want an Accord?

They are not that refined and not great on diesel. Over priced as well IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

It is expensive I know but it just seems like a car that will last the test of time and not cost me a whole pile of bother

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,053 ✭✭✭Casati

Would you consider the ES GT? Seems to be a more popular spec and the leather in the EX isn't mega? If going for the Mondeo I'd be tempted to wait till Jan as the prices are likely to fall a lot when the new model hits the forecourt

+1 for Alan in m6 motors. He brought a 3 series in for me. Sourcing is the main part of his business model in fairness. If he sends you a list of suitable cars and you don't see what you like he will keep looking. At least he did for me as I was quite fussy in what I wanted..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

Well I told him when Alan sent me the options that one was out of my price range but the model I was after. He didn't reply but I assume he is still looking. Will give him a buzz over the next day or 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

To be honest I would really like a sunroof and that's the reason im picking the EX over the ES GT. Mondeo was original choice but think I will stick with the Honda. Hopefully will cause me less trouble in the long run

Anybody have any experience of Capitol Motors in Bluebell on the Old Naas Road? Herself is getting a car from there next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

Anybody have any dealings with Oliver Geoghean Motors in Galway or H&H Autos in Kinsale? They are looking at cars for me at the minute. Thanks

How about this: http://ukcarimports.ie/records?id=d891d9f612bd1f390042b9670c9df610 Ive never used their service and not sure if they take trade ins but may be worth a call. Not affiliated to them.

Looks like im in no need for a car sourcer after all. Saw a lovely Accord in Wexford, going down to see it tomorrow with the hope of driving away in it :-) Anyone know anything about Tom Moran motors in Wexford?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭ian87

    Did you buy anything yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭Armaghmagic

Yeah bought a 09 Honda Accord 2.2 I-DTEC EX. Love it though going back with it, sunroof and clutch issues!

I think you will note the post is from 2014, and there are many people interested in our service and these threads if you are not.

Yes, but for me resurrecting couple years old thread for advertising purposes looks a bit kinda pushy advertising, and I don't think it suits this forum.
That's especially when coming from Verified representative...

    Hi CiniO

I became a representative in the last 2 months, hence why I didn't reply to older posts until now. If you would like to ask me about our service I will be sure to do so promptly from now on.

Couldn't a mod please intervene and discuss the normal forum rules with this "verified representative"; surely he could have it explained to him that resurrecting zombie threads is simply against the charter and bad practice.

Luckily, from the impression he has created in his recent interventions, I suspect that his firm will shortly realise that his listings are creating the impression of a rogue operator rather than a competent business.

I am responding to queries about www.ukcarimports.ie which is the purpose of my representative status. There are numerous queries about our cars and a desire for feedback from users of our service across numerous threads.

I am really not certain what the issue is with my replies as they are informative and in line with the theme of the thread.

Furthermore my position, name and history are clear for everyone to see and I am frank in challenging those that know nothing about the service nor seem to have a positive word to say but seem to have a huge interest in my every post. Perhaps some vested interests out there?

Boardsies are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Boards rules and individual charters applicable to the forums.

The Motors forum includes an obligation not to resurrect old threads unnecessarily. Your entry into this thread was to resurrect it not to respond to anyone's query.

Perhaps as a paid representative you are outwith the forum's charter but I doubt it. I have no vested interest; I am not involved in the motor industry other than owning cars. I might be interested in importing further cars from the UK and I find your website interesting. Your behaviour on Boards, however, is not only contrary to usual posting etiquette and against the forum's charter but is also liable to bring your business into disrepute.

Really? Digging up a 2 year old thread to post here about your business is just plain old advertising plain and simple.

Have you read the conditions attached to your verified rep status?

Aware of the rules but perfectly happy to breach them. Your continued inability to apologise or modify your behaviour certainly warrants attention.
