btea wait times

    How long should we leave it before we start calling welfare office? Our son applied for btea 2 wks ago and is due to start college on Monday but has heard nothing yet. He was on jsa and is only 20 but the citizens advice says as he's been out of education 2 yrs he should qualify. We presume he can't start college and collect jsa while he's waiting to find out about btea.

    It won't kick in for a few weeks yet. In the meantime you can collect the JSA. That is what I was advised to do in first year by the DSP

    Thanks that's very helpful. Don't suppose you know how long the btea acceptance letter takes do you? Didn't want him getting into trouble with welfare by claiming jsa if not supposed to.
