Losing channels on Humax Foxsat HDR

Just attempted to record Eastenders on BBC1 SD on my (older model) Humax & it's knocking out the signal to all other channels, with the exception of BBC2.

I know there can be a clash in transponders when attempting to record 2 channels at the same time, but I'm recording one channel only & have nothing scheduled to record elsewhere etc.

BBC Three, Four & BBC1 HD all gone, as are all Ch4's etc.

When I abort the recording, all my channels immediately come back.

    Any ideas folks?

If you have 2 working feeds from the LNB on the dish to the Humax box there shouldn't be a clash. How many feeds do you have from the LNB?

If you have 2 feeds can you check the signal level readings for the 2 inputs. Also check that all LNB feed connectors are secure to the box.

Had a similar problem with my sister's Humax just recently (1 input had no signal), traced the problem back to a faulty LNB, feedhorn cover cracked allowing water to get in.

    Thanks for that The Cush.

Yeah, I've 2 feeds from the dish to the Humax, but having just checked, the second tuners not showing any signal.

I've a point in the wall that feeds a splitter - one coax goes straight to the TV for Saorview, then another into the second tuner on the Humax (I've then another separate coax feeding Tuner 1 from elsewhere).

So I'm thinking the first thing to try would be to replace the cabling in & out of the splitter, as it's been in a fairly tight space for a couple of years. Hope it's an issue at the easy end as opposed to up at the LNB, sods law most likely says otherwise!

Where is the satellite and aerial signal combined? I'd check connections from the wall to the TV, in and out of the combiner and to the LNB. If the combiner is easily accessible maybe try bypassing the combiner to rule out a problem with it.

believe it or not my humax has lost its signal. like above have a combiner with saorview and sat, saorview ok.

tried my spare manhatten box at the point as well again no signal

my 28.2 is from a quad lnb. elsewhere all ok. checked everything in the attic all seems ok there!!

I just bypassed the combiner (which is behind my TV unit) as you suggested & my second tuner kicked back into action :)

I then tested both coax using the UHF output of the combiner on my LG, and Saorview strength / quality was well below par on both. Looks like those two cables need swapping out so.

Edit: can those combiner units themselves become troublesome too?

I wouldn't think so, unless exposed to something harmful, maybe water getting in via the cables.

Is the combiner that close to the TV, or are you referring to the splitter which separates the 2 signals? Both can be the same only reversed. The combiner is normally located remotely or close to the aerial/dish where there isn't enough cables running to the TV point.

Which cables are you planning on replacing?
Regarding Saorview, are you having problems with that too, if not I'd not worry about it now.

Have you tested the splitter with the other sat feed by simply running the sat signal through it?

Sorry yeah, combiners in the attic & splitter's behind the TV.

Was planning on replacing Sat / Terrestrial coax exiting the splitter, but all I've had to do was tidy them up, as the copper wiring had frayed & the F connectors weren't as secure as they should be.
