When asked by DVD recorder to initialise a -rw disc what is the difference between V mode and VR mode?.

    Thanks in advance.

Very surprised that no-one seems to have an answer to this question!.
Even the recorder handbook doesn't explain.

I'll just have to use a couple if discs and see if the diff is obvious.

VR mode supports non linear playback and advanced editing features , for example , you can rename chapters etc. , also you can remove a half full disc and put it back later to fill it up. Once initialised though , its done unless you re-format , obviously to re-format , the disc needs to be a RW type disc.

Downsides of this mode are that the disc may not be playable on anything else other than the brand of recorder it was made on.

V mode is standard recording mode , and once finalised should be playable on anything with a DVD drive.

Thanks andy1249, I've always used + discs, because they worked on both machines that I have, but bought - by mistake last time so saw the message for the first time.

    Cheers.
