Great idea to cater for people who will customize it from close on a bare shell.

Not unheard of at all. When the DC2 was new Im fairly sure that even the radio, clock and carpets were optional extras.

That model GT86 makes perfect sense for someone who plans on putting on a bodykit and upgrading the wheels.

Wasnt this news around when the car was released, I guess the pricing is new, you can do a lot with that extra 10kGBP you save. Will this be available in Ireland and if so will it actually be much cheaper than what the full spec costs.

No diff or air con and only 40kg lighter?

Those poverty seats must weight a bit.

Great basis for a track car etc!

I.... rather prefer that actually. Although it does highlight just how large the 'bumpers' are on modern cars.

Nobody makes cheap, fun cars anymore. They make fun cars cheaply - but charge through the nose for them.

They have to. The Bean counters run the show, the stock exchange dictates how "good" your company is, not the product. The product is only the tool required to become a "good" company on the stock exchange! So the shareholders need to be happy.
Toyota CEO says "I want to make a fun car again" and the shareholders frown and ask "What will that mean to our bottom line...." So it's up to the CEO to find a way to make it work for the bottom line!
Shame, but that's what greed gets us!

Loss of the limited slip diff is a bit baffling....I mean I would expect buyers of this model to be wanting to mod it up to the 9's so not having that seems a bit odd. It's all about the cost reduction I guess...

They looks odd sitting so high from the factory. Maybe that's just due to the trend in having everything lowered these days...

    A cossie BRZ? Yes please!

Is it me or are there holes left in the dashboardeek.png? I mean, I understand the missing radio etc. (maybe also a missing passenger airbag? Looks like it...), but at least put a cheap thin plastic cover on the holes? Maybe tinfoil? Crayon coloured paper? No? biggrin.png

With all the tuning houses in Japan, they're probably fitting their own upgraded LSD anyway!
