My Sigma 17-70 is focusing behind the subject. Always. Why?!

Basically, if I take a photo of somebody, the lens will focus on the wall behind him, even though I have the lens directed to his nose! Why is my lens doing this? Is there any way to adjust it?

The focus spot is set to the center.

    I'm using a canon 40d.

    Any ideas?

    So many photos ruined...

Your lens back focuses, pritty common with sigmas unfortunately. Is it still under warranty? If so bring it back.
As far as I know 40D doesn't have AF micro adjustment so there is nothing you can do yourself.

some people find Sigmas grand, but from my experience focus is always a bit soft - I've always lost money by trading up & buying the Nikon equivalent.

The lens is a good 5 years old so unfortunately no warranty. I don't recall this happening in the past.

Do you think it could be repaired some how?

    Cool.

So where's the cheapest place I can get it done? Is there a Sigma specialist in Cork? Or perhaps Ireland? Or even a regular shop somebody could recommend? Thanks.,

I think Hahnel in Cork are agents for Sigma.

Just called Hahnel, they're gonna get back to me on Monday when the tech is around.

Do regular B&M camera shops do this too?

What about sending it to the UK?
