Fixed gear advice.

I have a road bike that I got on the bike to work around last Christmas. Never liked it, I was never comfortable on it. I'm going to convert it into a fixed gear bike and put flat bars on it to get around town.

First question is. Would it be hard to convert and expensive?

Second question is. I'm thinking of taking it to my LBS and asking him to convert it for me and he can keep the brakes, drops, cables, derailleurs etc as payment. Would that be a good deal for him or would he laugh at me?

Probably better off selling it and buying a decent fixie second hand.

It could be a simple fitting issue. Have you had a proper/decent bike fit?

No I never did to be honest but I'm kinda set on a fixie now. I don't know whether it's something that costs a fortune or if it's not a big job

sell it and buy another bike. your current bike doesnt have suitable rear dropouts for fixed gear anyway

Specialized Langster is a popular/recommended choice

    I wouldn't go converting a new bike into a fixie/singlespeed.

What bike do you have currently? I'd recommend getting a bike fit also.

Bring it in to Bolton Cycles, Bolton St. If he can't do what you want, he might take a trade in against one of his stock fixed gears.

    Hey it's a Merida 900 road bike. About €700 of a bike

I would sell it and get a new bike. Second hand low spec components aren't worth much to a bike shop as they pay trade prices anyway.

Don't convert, not really suited, sell it and use the money for an end of season bike or second hand. I got mine on sale for 2/3 the price last September.
