It's much more shocking and gruesome than a bullet to the head. Sends a stronger message.

Remove a Zombie's head and it's still 25% combat effective. Here's a tip, stick a screwdriver through the temple, and put it down for good.

Apparently someone has just been beheaded around 10 minutes away from my house (North London). Maybe it was the op who done it.

    There's no apparently about it.

I, the OP, am trying to figure out why we've resorted to beheadings in the West.

Thanks I would have looked fair stupid if a headless zombie still managed to kill me.

Apparently (and I love statements that begin with "apparently") the brain can stay functioning for up to 30 seconds if a head has been cleanly removed. In one case I read about, a victim's eyes followed an observer around a room for a few seconds after the head was removed. Creepy!

Have a look around a room for 30 seconds. Its a pretty long time to be aware your head is not where it should be.

See this link: http://clatl.com/gyrobase/so-youre-dead-now-what/Content?oid=1244861&showFullText=true, notably (regarding the guillotine) "At the time, however, several anatomists and scientists claimed that even after the head was lopped off, the brain remained active and continued to receive and process external signals for several torturous moments. Witnesses claimed to have seen decapitated heads gnashing their teeth and twisting their eyes for a good five minutes after the execution. The guillotine, these critics claimed, was a terrible torture device and had to be stopped."

and: "...physician named Beaurieux who reported that while studying the head of a prisoner who had recently been guillotined, he noted the "eyelids and lips worked in irregularly rhythmic contractions for about five seconds." As the face began to relax and the eyelids close, Beaurieux claimed he yelled out the prisoner's name, at which time the eyes popped back open and focused on the doctor briefly before closing again."

The videos we're seeing online now however show them using small knives; the person would probably lose consciousness before the head was fully removed in these cases.

I read somewhere that they can actually attach your head back onto your body within 48 hours of the beheading. Not sure if this is true though.

They can. but its better to let things go. Take Enda, for instance.

They can attach it 48 years after if they want, you'll still be ****ing dead though!

Once you put it in ice. Fill a bag with ice and put the head in that. Then get yourself on the waiting list for head-reattachment-surgery.

Hopefully you won't be facing too long a wait.

Mike the chicken lived for 18 months without a head. If a chicken could do it, surely a human could?

Few drops of vodka in an eye dropper, directly into the oesophagus. Be grand.

It could become the next ice-bucket challenge. "Lop off a head for Irritable bowel Syndrome". I believe this craze is rampant in the Middle east at the mo.

i dont understand, sure he still has his head, albeit with a screwdriver through the temple. Better to lop it off IMO.
