I have a flight from Dublin Airport to Munich next week. My flight is 09.40. I only have hand luggage. What time should I be at airport for? Would an hour before be enough?

Oh NO! Dublin Airport is busiest between 5 and 10am. Security can be a nightmare. Leave 90 minutes minimum!

you mean memmingen Allgaü international airport BTW.

anyhow, an hour to clear security and get to a gate which could be a good 15 / 20 minute walk, and be there before Ryanair may decide to board early (or change the gate completely with minimum of info which happened my last time flying to memmingen), is way too tight.

The flight is over 2 hours, plenty of time to sleep there, and the hour and a half on the bus to Munich afterwards too

correct airport memmingen Allgaü international is where i'm going!

ok i'll be there for 7.30 to make sure!!!!

give myself 2 hours on the way back too!

Another question, my flight gets in at 12.50 & the bus to Munich city centre leaves at 13.20. Would I have enough time to make that??

Never take chances, get there 2 hours before hand, if you are early grab a drink after security.
As for the bus to Munich, there are buses into the city every 15-20 mins.

Thanks, you def right here. Oh I thought the only bus was the Allgau Airport Express. I'll have a look at alternatives buses so if I miss the 13.20.

The gate being changed has absolutely nothing to do with Ryanair, the Pod in Dublin Airport does that, and I suppoose you were at the gate 30 minutes before your flights departure time, the time the gate is due to close, or are you just having a dig?

OP plan to be at security 90 to 120 minutes before your flight, which should leave you plenty of time to get through to your gate so you can relax and have a tea / coffee

Share a taxi with some others (there's always willing volunteers), €12 between 4 and you're at the train station in 5 minutes, buy a Bayernticket at the machine, wander around the town a few minutes, and there's a direct train to Munich at around 14:00.

Note: The Bayernticket can only be used on Regional Trains. Worth keeping an eye on.

I was at the gate a good hour before, and then it changed, changed again, and someone on the other end of the walkie talkie from the Ryanair lady at the gate (who was giving us the guided tour of the airport!) wanted it changed again - but the Ryanair ground person told them to feck off with the messing as there was 150+ people standing beside her at that moment waiting to board.

anyhow, I'm a fan of the express bus. Its the quickest way and if travelling on your own (which 99% of posters here appear to be, if even they arent - which would be a useful detail to provide as then group tickets might start becoming interesting if theres more than just yourself travelling) its the cheapest.

Oh yeah sorry there is actually 4 of us travelling...

from looking at the train times i'd say we might go with the express bus as its lesss hassle & works out around the same timeframe too. express bus is working out at €28 return per person which also is reasonable enough.

Then if you want to save a few euro the Bayern ticket will be useful:
    http://www.bahn.de/p_en/view/offers/national/regional/laender-tickets/bavaria-ticket.shtml

€35 for 4 people and the public transport in Munich will also be covered.

Once again, you need to be careful with the train you choose so no ICE, EC or IC but the regional trains will have you in there in 90 minutes or 2 hours.

Absolutely.. It's right outside the front door, a big orange bus.

Yes and the other person on the other radio telling her it has to be changed again is on the phone or another radio to the POD and they are the ones who are changing it all the time, same with every other airline in the Airport. Also, once you're at the gate before the 'gate close' time you'll be fine, try not be like the majority of pax who treat the plane like a bus and expect it to be there when they decide to come. I think you were just having another dig as usual, without the facts.

It's a pity almost everyone everlooks Memmingen. It's a nice little spot.

The Bayern tickets and the Schoenes Wochenende deals are great value.

I'd always play it safe and try be there at least 90 minutes beforehand. If you were on your own and a frequent traveler you could probably do it in an hour alright but you'd be constantly looking at your watch and it'd probably be a little nerve wrecking. Usually Ryanair don't start boarding until around 10 - 15 mins of departure time but on the rare occasion they stick to their word of the gate being closed 30 minutes before take off (or they'll be half way through boarding realistically).

As for the express bus, I'm pretty sure it's one of those buses whose timetable is synced to Ryanair arrivals so you should have no trouble getting that one.
