Wondering if there is any point in spending 50 to get a car valeted before going to visit dealers, or will they have a fixed figure of what the car's worth based on age, mileage etc?

Is a car wash and a good vacuum out all thats needed?

No point whatsoever, unless its dirty to the point where it may put the dealer off altogether
(as in, you have been carrying livestock in the back seat or something...). The dealer will valet it (presumably) before they sell it either way, so a quick wash and hoover is fine.

Tarting it up too much with a 5* valet may arouse suspicions on the part of the sales guy, he may be the cynical type and immediately assume that the engine is shagged. Just make sure it's reasonably clean and you'll be fine.

Clean = well looked after and worth slightly more

Valeted = last minute tarting up, treat with suspicion

2 hours or so of your own time washing it and hovering the inside out can make a big difference to it's value imo.

In a private sale, yes. For a trade in though? Cant see it making a huge amount of difference unless the car is actually dirty to the point of being damaged. They will clean it before they sell it on anyway.

I tend to disagree. It can be the difference between haggling another few hundred or so off the cost to change price which imo is well worth the bit of effort in cleaning your own car. It costs very little except a little elbow grease and your time.

At the end of the day you are still trying to sell your car whether it be privately or to a dealer and it's about making it presentable. A clean, well looked after car gives a better impression even to a dealer than a dirty pig of a car.
