    Hey peeps,

I'm off to America in December and I'm just wondering whats the situation with buying alcohol in Duty Free in Dublin and brining it over to America.

The problem is I'm only 19, and while I don't intend to drink it while I'm over there, I'm sure they'd take it off me when I land?

They won't take it off you, you'll have no problems.

A customs officer could confiscate it if he sees you have alcohol and are under 21. If you are travelling direct from Dublin or Shannon, the CBP officer at preclearance will be the one responsible for doing so, but he/she may not notice.

In a completely unrelated matter, I think there is still a very small Duty Free kiosk in Dublin after preclearance, but I don't know what it stocks.

According to Customs the allowance is only for people over 21

Generally, one liter of alcohol per person may be entered into the U.S. duty-free by travelers who are 21 or older, although travelers coming from the U.S. Virgin Islands or other Caribbean countries are entitled to more. Additional quantities may be entered, although they will be subject to duty and Federal excise taxes, which will be assessed and collected at the port of entry.

You could chance it, but if they notice it they will take it off you.
